00-04 and the 05+ transmissions are similar, but on the 05+ they have (more, larger, stronger?) clutch packs, etc to deal with the duratec torque.
Almost 18k miles on mine..and its all good so far..and I beat the living tar out of it every chance I get. (driving like an idiot, autocross) The only thing I haven't done (and won't do) is a neutral drop. hehe
The new: 2013 Tangerine Scream ST
The old: 2005 ZX4 - MBRP 2.25", Marcy Motorsport CAI. SCT Tuning, Eibach Pro-System

If I was gonna pull a " stoopid driver trick" in an autobox Focus I'd pull a parking brake launch over a neutral drop...
Cheaper if you screw up your braking system as opposed to your tranny :P

If you wanna spin the tires get a manual, least then you can do 3-4k drops and not hurt anything to bad. Cept you might need a new clutch after a while. Then upgrade to a really good clutch and resume 3-4k drops until you have no tires left :D
