depends on how much fallout is on the vehicles you are clay'ing.

Better way to look at it is, keep using the claybar till when you pull it...it starts to not stay together, or if you get sap in it, if the bar becomes black..even after you fold it over several times, if you get rocks or debris stuck into it from dropping on the ground...

...to answer your question..you could probably claybar 20-30 full cars on 1 bar if the cars are reasonable and you take care of the bar...but again, hard to say..

I always run out of spray. when I clay a car, I buy two of the large detailers. The little one is gone after my hood and fenders are done. :ph34r:

I've done 3 cars so far with the clay bar I bought this year and its not even close to black, still very yellow and not falling apart.

On more than three occasions? Because by the sounds of it, those cars don't really need that much attention. I got around 4-10 uses out of my clay bar when I had my Ranger, I haven't yet used clay on my Focus... so I have no idea on how many uses it'll have.

I'm about to clay my car and did some research. Good info - best thing I found was that you can make your own "misting spray"

Our recipe consists of a tablespoon of car wash detergent in about 20 oz. of distilled water and dispensed using a spray bottle

Oh no, they def needed it. My GF's accord hasnt been waxed or anything since last summer. I did my fathers beemer for his bday, that thing hasnt seen a coat of wax in over a year also. And the focus....well its never had claybar done to it since i bought it 99. Waxed twice a year since then and thats pretty much it.

Wow, i can't believe you can do mor than 2 cars with the bar being so small. Thanks for the replies. I'll post pics after my results of the 2 foci's i'll be cleaning up tommorow.

I wanna know how you guys are claybarring that you kill a whole bar on one vehicle...

I've never killed a bar on 1 car only!!...and as for the detail spray....use water in a spray bottle...same s***,,,

I've been detailing cars for 7 years and its the simple things that help you out the most..

Clay is to remove the fallout and debris that sticks to your paint, not to clean your car

I have yet to sample claybar technology on my car...I keep troweling the turtlewax platinum paste wax into my car, and sometimes the spray or the new ICE spray...all of which work very well...

ICE detailer is awesome for keeping my ride really clean, takes off dust and water spots without ever leaving streaks or dirt behind, it's by far the best spray detailer I have ever used. Nice choice with that.

I am going to be leaving the Focus down at my parents place soon because the passenger side door has some cosmetic damage to it now (my dads fault by dropping stuff against the car when it was in the garage). As good as claybar might be, it won't get rid of the new dents in the door, or cracked paint where the dent is...lol...guess it's time to order some new body peices and get a package deal from the bodyshop... ;)

Before you break out the clay bar, Wash the car, and by that I mean, go buy a wash mitt or whatever you prefer and actually wash the entire vehicle surface. Spraying the car down with a hose takes of most of the crud that sticks to your car but there is a ton of stuff it completely misses that a hand wash will get. When you finish, dry the car off with a chamois or blade or a synthetic towel, again whatever you think works best. This will remove any standing water which almost guaranteed has tons of minerals and sediment in it, all of which will otherwise end up in your clay bar. Don't waste a bar on a dirty car.

I've been using the same Mother's bar on several cars for the past year, and it's still got plenty of life in it. It's purpose is to remove pitted in sediment and debris from your paint surface. Stuff like rail dust, tar and sharp debris that has embedded itself into the paint. The spray detailer that comes with your bar should last you several uses. The key is to do small areas at a time. Don't douse the entire 1/4 panel and try to clay it before it dries, instead work a foot wide area at a time using quick spray or two, then with a clean towel wipe the residue. Work your way around the car like that. The bottle of detailer should last for a half dozen cars this way. If you run out of detailer, it doesn't matter, it's simply a lubricant in this case. Refill the bottle with water and a small ammount of dish soap (I use Dawn) If you're worried dish soap will eat your clearcoat,, first off, you're using too much, and you are letting it dry to the surface. Dish soap will however strip wax off the clearcoat, which you really want in this case anyways, you aren't cleaning the paint if it's still covered in wax. Doing a small patch at a time ensures it's not going to dry before you towel it off.

Basically, don't go clay your car expecting it to be a 20 minute job. Even washing the car before you run that little bar over the paint should be taking you more than 20 minutes. A full detail job done properly can take several hours, even more if you start on the interior and worry about cleaning out and greasing all the hinges, doorjambs, and engine bay.
