Exhaust Tickets
#1
so i got another ticket for my exhaust . this is the second one . got one last year and again this year . fought the first one had to pay 60 $ , and this time i got an xcopper to do the dirty work. goes to court in may 2007. so what this is leading up to is fight every ticket you get , big or small. the original ticket cost is 118$, paid xcopper 270$. its not the money but the pincepal of the whole thing. there is no legal way to prove that my exshaust does not meet standards. in the province of ontario we have no db testing so there for they cannot prove that it is to loud.

Its up to the officer, not a DB test.

You'll have a fun time...xcoppers might get it lowered fo ryou but thats about it.

Lots of guys are fighting these tickets in Ottawa....and losing.

I used the Harley davidson example when *I* went to court to fight this ticket a few years back. I spoke to the crown before hand and they dismissed the charge. But that aint working anymore, well not here at least.

These days if your car make sounds your getting a ticket for no reason. Cops hate modified cars! When I was in Police foundation the teacher found out that I had a modified car and gave me a hard day almost every freaking day! I hate cops now!!!

I think that there is a set volume written somewhere. It's either 100 or 105db is the outer limit. I forget where I read this, but systems like the MBRP are within tolerance.

I have never gotten a ticket for my car for the exhaust, or for my tint which is 20% all around. I have only ever had an MP on base flash his brights at me once (this is with the ST170 headlamps), so I flashed him back, and he stood down. I dunno what the big idea is with cars with anything done to them being a bane to society.

I agree that the Choppers that run around are hitting well over 120db...something that is BS.

Hope you win...

Hrm, I'm wondering if part of why people are getting caught in town is that they're getting caught too high in the rev range with manual trannies? Around town I can't manage more than 5K RPM with the autotragic without having to back off and on the highways these days it's like "Cannonball Run" so if I hit 6K+ passing and the MBRP & CAI combo is doing the Tarzan yell, no one notices (or cares) :P

So paying $270 for a $118 ticket that carries no points is better how? I would pay if the ticket carried some points but if it doesn't just set a court date so you don't pay for it for 6 months then try to talk your way out of it.

Face it with a modified car or even a stock sports car you are a target that right now is more important than gun violence.

I got pulled over for my MBRP once. My dad was driving my car, and told the Officer that its a Ford and hes having so many problems with it and even ford doesnt know how to fix it properly or something came loose, and the officer let my dad off with a Warning.

The problem with using the Harley excuse is that bikers can use the legitimate reason that a loud bike makes other motorists (cars) aware that they are there. Motorcyles have a bit more leeway because they are somewhat vulnerable, there are no side impact reinforcement bars or airbags to protect them.

I got busted for my old car's setup - straights into cherrybombs :D I got it reduced to a warning after I slammed a cat in the middle and brought it by the station.

That was a Chev Celeb Eurosport Wagon with the 3.1L V6. Oddly enough, I never got pulled over for the few months my truck was on the road - 289 and then a 302 with twin straights into large 3" glasspacks. What a beast it was for sound.

Never been hassled for the MBRP yet. I was followed a couple of times while the greenhorns got used to the tails, but that's it. Never pulled over for those, either.

OMG. that's insane. i now firmly believe canada is the land of the car nazi where everyone must drive fuel efficient 1.0L motor hatchbacks.. first modified car insurance bs, then giving bs tickets to compact car owners.. now giving tickets to 100% street legal OE stock vehicles..wtf.. how can you give someone an ticket on a STOCK car

I dont rmember reading any DB reading limitations in the highway traffic act. Maybe some bylaws would specify a limit, but I dont recall seeing it in thE HTA.

well there is no db reading for exshuasts. there for how can a person give you a ticket that they cannot prove is over the limit. unless they are hearing specialists and can tell. any way i got the ticket at 2 am in an area with lots of buildings. so can you say echo.

It's a "descretionary" ticket like "window tint" tickets.

But it's alright for a jack-ass on a Harley to go ripping by with an exaust that makes my windows in my house shake?>???

Do bikers with 6 inch straight pipes off the manifolds get the same tickets???? I doubt it.

It makes no sence.

but the cops don't fear lash backs from a ricer gang. Don't you think that on some level biker gangs have cops on the payroll?
