Wtb Zetec Motor
#1
Hi just like the topic states i would like a lower milage zetec motor ... complete with the ecu and everything ... i am planning on doin a swap to my 03 se with the spi ... i think the zetec would do much better for a base seeing as it has twincams and much more preformance upgrades .... please let me know what you guys have .... as low a price as possible ... i saw on another thread that a guy wanted 600 for a 32000 km zetec ... im lookin for somthin like that .... mabe higher milage (up to 80 000) but preferably under 500 bones! (i dont expect any mods on it .... especally for the price im asking for!) if you can hold onto the motor for me that would be best as i WILL have to save a little for it .... (unless i can sell my grand am by then ... im hoping!!) so thanks for your time and any replys negitive or positive are appreciated ( and if im too lowballing it PLEASE LMK i dont want to seem like a d*ck) thanks guys!!! :D

jsut so you know you will need some other parts besides the motor and ecu unless you can find one that comes with all accesories attached (ie alternator for sure, maybe starter, a/c etc)

spi swap info

more info

Quote:You need the engine, trans, ECU (+pats or just reflash to match) Main wiring harness, flex pipe, catpipe or ORP, Alternator, trans motor mount, throttle cable, accesory belt, PS hard line, shift assembly, shift cables. not sure about the AC compressor - looks like it will bolt up but I havent tried it yet.

gotta search the net, focaljet.com has tons of info on this swap.

the one good idea that seems to be running around the threads is to find a wrecked zetec car and you'll have everything you need.

hope this helps and i think you should really think about how deep this is before you start buying the parts :)

If you have an auto, I hope you're either going Powerworks when this is all said and done (apparently safe for autos when tuned correctly) or JRSC (lower power, but safer). Otherwise, I hope you're converting to a manual at the same time in order to make use of the power you're looking for.

Really, with all the aggravation... just sell the SPI-powered car and get a Zetec-powered car. If I was that concerned over making serious power in a Focus, that's what I'd do.

On a different performance note, you could track down a SPI header (Focus Central shorty header was the lesser of tow evils IIRC), a high-flow cat, MBRP / Magnaflow cat-back exhaust for the tail end. Dump in the most raucous cam escortfocus.com has - don't forget the springs, lifters, etc! Find a used BDR / FC 60mm throttle body, add a 3" intake (short ram or cold air), move to 8 or 9mm wires (Screamin' Demon coil / LiveWires package) and top it off with a SCT tune for 91 or 94 octane, adjusted shift points, raised redline, etc.

Don't forget the 50% UDP.

From there, you can do suspension / wheels and tires, perhaps a brake upgrade, etc.

In any event, you could likely end up doing a lot of what I've mentioned to your Zetec-powered car. It's just a matter of "how fast do you want to go?" and "how much are you willing to spend?"

Good luck either way. :)

Daily driver 2: 2006 Subaru Legacy GT

COBB Stage 1+ package - AccessPort tuner, COBB intake and airbox. Stage 2 coming shortly - COBB 3" AT stainless DP and race cat, custom 3" Magnaflow-based exhaust and Stage 2 COBB tune.

Id go the zetec swap route before doing that....i honestly cant see that much performance coming form those bolt ones and tune...then again, my diea of power is different than yours.

Try Lecavalier reckers in Cumberland, ON, I picked up my spare zetec motor for cheap, but it was just a motor....no ecu, no alternator, no starter....etc. Latst time I was there they had a engine with about 80k on it, they were asking $500 with 6 month warranty.

The SPI and Zetec use two different transmissions, so you will need a new trans as well. IMHO, not the most fiscally sound swap. Go the extra mile and do a SVT/Getrag swap if your heart is set on a swap. Or sell the SPI and buy a Zetec car. Preferably a sedan. Sedans rule!

WOW its a really good thing i asked on here before trying to buy stuff .... i think for the ammount of effort it will take ... i dont have the time for it. so i think i will stick with the spi motor that would probably be a better bet. i have a turbo on the way so i think ill do the ecu tune a new really aggressive cam and a full exhaust (and other little mods like wires plugs etd.) - Would anyone know roughly the kind of power i could make? im looking for around 200 whp could i make it with the SPI?

K, do some more homework....

You have to add a lot more than just a turbo and tune for it to work properly. If done properly, getting 200whp out of the spi shouldnt be hard.

Your gonna need:
-Turbo (you said you already got it)
-Header for that turbo
-Oil feed line for that turbo
-Oil Drain line for that turbo
-Intercooler (safer for your engine when boosting and your not going to get a 'safe' 200whp without this)
-Custom intake
-Custom Intercooler plumping
-Computer/chip/dyno tuning *Must be done*
-Bigger MAF
-Colder plugs
-Larger exhuast
-Boost guage
-AF guauge

Def missing stuff.....that just a start. ;)

Well thanks for replying! i am aware that i will need many parts ive been researching this for around 2-3 months .... (steady) so i know iull need a MAF FMIC (pipes of course lol) header full exhaust , injectors , bov, boost guage , air fuel (dont need it bbut they look cool lol) ecu tuning ( chip im thinkin of the super chips but im not sure what one to go with) a new cam (id like one!) so i know roughly what i will need but its all back down to the cost lol so i hope to have this all done by next summer (spring would be better but i have another car to work on this winter) so thats my plan lol and i hope i dont break my tiny little 2.0L lol

^^^ I'd definitly go with SCT for tuning, try getting the Xcal 2, thats the one I got and Steeda out of Milton, ON tuned my car. I'd say if your going boost and trying to achieve 200whp definitly get the Zetec motor swapped in (this is my own opinion). If your going to go cams, try http://www.mcnewsautomotive.com for a custom Turbo Grind cam, this will perform the best if you go turbocharged. As for the A/F gauge look into a Wideband 02 Gauge, I know AEM makes one as well as Innovative. These gauges can be found at http://focus.c-f-m.com
Anyways good luck and feel free to ask questions!

Sedans do not rule..... That car has no heritage except as a ppl mover. The zx3 however has history and something to show for it (WRC)

Check out what some people have done with Escort's with the 2.0 SPI and a turbo. You should be able to find some on http://www.feoa.net and look in the 3rd Gen and Forced Induction sections.

Sorry-sedans are way too cool!!!! What's cooler-a ZX3 with a SVT engine swap or a sedan with a SVT engine swap? What's cooler-a ZX3 with a mod motor swap or a sedan with a mod motor swap? What's cooler-getting harrased by the man while driving a sporty 2-door or not getting a second look from the man driving a VERY loud sporty looking sedan? Do you get the humour I intended with this comment? Us sedan owners love our rides. To quote someone on this site (can't remember who) "Four doors, easy access".

if you wait approx 6 months I can sell you mine.

you will need some parts (crankshaft, ecu, gaskets, MAFS, oil pan)

it would only be for a block with pistons/rods, head with cams/gears/t.belt

it will have all pullies (except for tensioner)

bah screw it it would be way too much work :P
THE FOCUS IS GONE! THE LEGEND IS DEAD!

but hey, im still around.....
