Road Trip To Ottawa
#1
The gf and I, and maybe some friends are planning on taking a trip down to Ottawa for New Years festivities, any Ottawa members know some good hotels, sight seeing places, etc? Any information/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

As for Hotels, I highly recommend the Lac Leamy Hilton (casino).
2 minutes from Ottawa, but I doubt there would be much vacancy.
Don't forget to go see the new War Museum, although I haven't been there myself yet. There are other museums also, like the one in gatineau (Hull) which is the Civilisation Museum with IMAX theatre.
How about a NHL hockey game at Scotiabank place?
I'd also recommed to go ice skating on the Canal, but no ice yet!
There is much, much more... I'm sure others will fill in the blanks.

We were actually looking at that hotel's rates... and well, they're a little pricey. Checking out the Crown Plaza hotel, any idea on that one?

And we'll probably hit up a museum or two, but sightseeing should take up most of our time. That, and a little shopping of course. :P

I went to the War Museum last summer. It's worth the trip.
If you are looking for people to join you for dinner Christine and I might make the trip up from Prescott if you can set a firm time and place.
If you like Tex-Mex I would suggest Momma Rosa's. Great food and a beautiful view. Decent prizes and includes a bar. Or it's hard to go wrong with Outback.

x3 on the War Museum
x2 on the Museum of Civilisation - their kid's section is excellent too

Don't forget the Byward Market - lots of good shops and cafes -- and if you've never done the Parliament buildings tour it's pretty good too.

And frankly my number one destination there is now the new National Art Gallery on Sussex - I took the shots below in the main foyer ... it's worth going to see just for the architecture, never mind the art.

The last time we stayed in Ottawa we stayed at the Albert at Bay Suites and it was great. Albert at Bay Suites

Great info, thanks guys! Well, we have a hotel booked and it's just a matter of time before we make the trip. I'll be making a list of these places and we'll be sure to visit as many as possible, time permitting.

Another vote for the War Museum. Whenever we're back, that's the first place I'm going back to. I'm sure I didn't see everything the first time.

We stayed at the Clarion in downtown Ottawa. Good rates on the rooms, and the rooms were clean and quiet. Plus, I'm a sucker for valet parking.

Chiming in a bit late here... but good luck finding a hotel room. The Bell Canada hockey cup is on, and all the area's hotel rooms have been booked since last year.

If you do make it up though, and you're checking this thread, definately check out the war museum... and if you're still up on Tuesday, swing by the Keg in the market, and I'll hook you up with good steak for cheap.

Something tells me some guy would come along and get you all excited and you would prematurely explode in a turbo ball of puff and we would have to tow you home.

Oh wait, that's your car licking it's ass.

Just got back, and although we had no time for museums, we did go for a Parliament tour which was great! Being such a simple drive up, we're most likely going to plan a summer vacation down to Ottawa again.

Thanks! Had I known earlier, we definitely would have made it up to your restaurant for supper... but there's always next time.
