Meford4you is right,

Companies do that stuff behind your back and they dont even know it. When I first started working 10 years ago, we were unionized so I had to fill in union papers. I made a mistake on the union paper with my postal code but not on the companys application, off by one digit, and I know I made a mistake too, but never bothered to correct it even to this day. I used to get calls and mail from contests and prize claims, and they would want to verify where I live. Right when they were confirming my address/postal code, it dawned on me, thats where they got this info. not so much from companies like ford, but union organizations are behind it too.
