Ford Recalls More Than 500,000 Escapes for Engine-Fire Risk
4-13-2007
Source: Inside Line

DEARBORN, Michigan — The Ford Motor Company is recalling more than 500,000 Escape SUVs from the 2001-2004 model years after getting reports of engine fires linked to corrosion on antilock brake connectors. The recall does not affect the Escape Hybrid.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration had been investigating the problem, according to its Web site. There have been no reports of accidents or injuries connected with the recall. However, there have been about 50 reported engine fires connected to the problem.

Ford said the engine-fire risk is linked to missing or improperly installed seals on connectors for the antilock brake system's wiring harness. Dealers will replace faulty connectors and the ABS module if necessary. Ford expects most vehicles will not have any corrosion concern.

What this means to you: If you own an Escape from the 2001-2004 model years, have it checked out at your dealership

Stop buying Fords. Hold on, I think we all, or most of us have a Ford. I think we have to realize that all vehicles will have a recall or two or 13, if you have a 2000 Focus. Or, buy a really old car and just replace the stuff that breaksdown or falls off..................................

no kidding but really one could complain about the Current Honda Civic as being worse then a Current ford Product at the moment as the current 2006-7 Civic has 7 outstanding recalls now?

I've been telling people to buy Ford, especially the Focus, because by now, the platform is so old, that all the wrinkles have been ironed out. If you went to Japan, Honda is the third best selling car

Stock for Stock, and price for price, the Mustangs Trump anything made in Japan for the same price too...

Oh yeah, in the UK, the Focus is #1 still in segment, Fiesta and KA are #1 in theirs, and the Mondeo is STILL #1 as well...

Since Ford bought it's premiere brands (Volvo, Aston Martin, Land Rover, etc), all of those brands have had better QA, and the best sales they have ever had too.

So, to me, Ford is doing stuff right...just not often/fast enough...lol

so if you got one in 2001 or 2002, they'd wait 5 or 6 years to get it checked?

No stangs have burned yet that I've heard of....they just sometimes flood in the front passenger footwell (there is some seal in the firewall they forgot to install on a lot of them in the 05's and a few 06's...no, mine doesn't flood), and the V6's have driveshafts that explode into peices if you have a lot of power adders on them...

Other than that, life is good...
