Ohh ya I can see that one being hard to prove. Hello Ford my car crashed because my spring failed.
I have a few cars.

One for my dog.
One that has no roof.
One that looks good parked at the golf course.
One that is being rebuilt by a guy named Nero..... will it ever be done?

Probably the cause of the front noise that the dealership could not figure out. The noise magically disappeared after having Eibach lowering springs installed.

Lol, I think that applies to a lot of us here.

On a side note, my girlfriends Escort was making crazy front end noises one day, so I took the front wheels off, to find a spring cracked in half!! :o
That car is such a unsafe piece of s**t.

Mine will be on the floor come spring instal of SVT bits. Maybe I give them an extra blast of Tremclad seeing they are Ford products.

Is there a good spray paint that is flexible? May be a good chance to add some colour to the suspension.

Ford seems to have lots of trouble w.r.t springs. Didn't Windstars get recalled after springs broke and punctured tires while people were driving? Thats not good.

When your springs break we will change them free of charge!

Well thanks a lot I'm already Dead!

had an aftermaerket springs break on all four corners of my car in a matter of 2 weeks and i ddint once loose control of the car it just did not handle well at all and i even had one rear spring completley dislodge from its proper position and lodge itself firmly against th bumper of my friends truck with little more than a clunk and bang...

not good to have broken springs but not the end of the world

So you as owner of the focus must have your car
properly undercoated... etc or the springs will crack?
When do we find out if they'll replace  them?

No you take your chances and if they happen to break THEN they will replace them. However if you have the symptoms mentioned in the letter and a good dealer I'm sure something would be done.

If I didn't have replacement parts already I'd be at the dealer today as I already have it on record from previous work orders years ago "complaints about front suspension noise" plus I have a good relationship with the dealer.

I just got the lil' red SPI undercoated yesterday... they did a bang-up job. Of course, I come home to the aforementioned letter!

I've never noticed any noises or problems, leaning or sagging, etc... with the car, so I'll just keep the letter on the fridge and an ear on the springs :)

My dealer's been pretty awesome so far, so if I have grief, in it goes.

So this is due to corosion, eh? Then it mainly just affects you Ontario guys that get the huge amounts of salt spray.. I've already replaced my springs, so if the stock ones start cracking in the closet, can I take them to the dealership and have them replaced? :)

Heres a good story.... Long read but laugh at my luck.

So i schedule a oil change with my dealer, nothing fancy just an oil change. As im pulling into the dealership i go over a pothole, and what do i heard a big cracking or breaking noise. I was like wtf was that. After that noise i couldnt turn my wheel without making a grinding noise. Anyways so i went inside and told them about the program, they knew instantly it was the springs. So aside from the oil changed i needed new springs. SO i asked if there was any more recall s**t to do since the car was gonna be in there for a bit, and they found that my fuel pump should be replaced so i said go ahead. Parents come pick me up i go home.

Later that night the dealership calls me and sais they have bad news. I ask what. They say we gave ur car an oil change, and your springs will be in tomorrow, but we cant change the fuel pump cause u have too much fuel in ur tank. PLUS we accedently smashed ur drivers side window when we locked your keys in the car and had to try to jimmy the lock open. At that time i was quite upset but im pretty passive so i let it go. More to come on this....

Next day come (no rental car), i had to take my parents car to work (45 min away). Now their car doesnt have a beep reminder if u leave your lights on, so i go into work come out 8 horus later and try to start the car... its a no go. So i lock the door and go back in to get a boost. I come out only to realize i locked my keys in the car. NOW if the battery wasnt dead the doors would of automatically unlocked with they keys in the ignition, but no... no it didnt. So my parents come in heavy traffic (1.5 hours) to come unlock the door and give me a boost. BAd day. I get home only to find that ford ordered the wrong glass for the car, my springs were now installed, but they still cant do the fuel pump.

OOO Next day! Ford calls saying the new glass arrived, and they will now do the pump for me(magically fuel no longer matters) i give the go ahead, but i wanted a rental car now for all the problems... i asked for a truck cause i was goign up north to ski, i get to the rental shop, about to take the keys for the truck... oh sorry are u 21, NOPE no truck for me, i get a bottom of the line bald tire focus from antoerh rental, and get to fight my way up to blue mountain in a snow storm! WOOOOeee.

Ok SO last day (started tuesday, now friday) i get a call from ford. Cars all done, i pick it up in the eveneing at a cost of like $300 something (after goin in for a 29$ oil change), as im driving home smoke starts filling the car. WTF IS GOING ON!!! turns out some seal in my engine is now broken and its leaking oil onto the headers. so next day back to ford another 200 or 300 cant remember, to get that fixed.

CARS ALL DONE, and as im saying this week cant get any worse my mother hands me a letter from a collection agency saying i ow 635$ to rogers video for overdue games. Turns out after a month of arguing, someone used my card (fromt he wallet i lost) and rented games and never returned. God what a horrible week. Jebus save me. Hehe (btw this happened last year).

On a good note. i get my money back from ford for the springs now that they are fixed!

Paul.
