Transport Canada releases latest recalls
August 17, 2007

Ottawa, Ontario - Transport Canada has issued its latest recalls, which may affect some Honda, General Motors, Ford and Mazda vehicles.

2007 Honda Civic
Vehicles affected: 1,387

On certain vehicles, the Tire and Loading Information Label was printed with incorrect Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) and Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) data. The information printed on the affected label is that for the Civic LX model, which weighs less than the Civic EX model. The incorrect labels indicate a GVWR of 1665 kg, which should be 1695 kg; a front GAWR of 880 kg, which should be 895 kg; and a rear GAWR of 785 kg, which should be 800 kg. Since it does not pose any safety risk, no corrective action is required.

2006-2007 Chevrolet Optra
Vehicles affected: 9,120

On certain vehicles, a piece of the seatbelt buckle lower cover may break off and become lodged in the buckle assembly. As a result, the seatbelt tongue may not latch in the buckle or the push button may become stuck, preventing the occupant from unlatching the buckle. Dealers will replace the driver and front passenger seatbelt buckles.

On certain vehicles, the speed control deactivation switch may overheat, smoke or burn, potentially resulting in an under-hood fire. The failure mode appears to be different than that of Recall 2005028 (05S28); this time, the concern is with long-term durability performance issues causing the switch to fail. Initially, as an interim repair, owners will be instructed to return their vehicles to dealers to have the speed control deactivation switch disconnected. As soon as replacement parts are available, owners will be instructed to return to dealers for installation of a fused wiring harness.

2007 Chevrolet Express
2007 GMC Savana
Vehicles affected: 1,812

On certain vehicles, the rear brakes may still be applied, although the brake pedal is released and the stop lamps are no longer illuminated. Dealers will reprogram the anti-lock brake system module.

2007 Chevrolet Equinox
2007 Pontiac Torrent
Vehicles affected: 149

On certain vehicles, the passenger sensing system may fail to detect a small adult occupying the right front seat, due to an error in seat sensor calibration. In the event of a crash severe enough to activate the airbags, the front passenger airbag may not deploy. Dealers will reprogram the seat's electronic control unit.

1998-2002 Mazda B2300
1998-2002 Mazda B3000
1998-2002 Mazda B4000
Vehicles affected: 4,979

On certain vehicles, the speed control deactivation switch may overheat, smoke or burn, potentially resulting in an under-hood fire. Dealers will install a fused wiring harness designed to eliminate the risk.
