Transport Canada issues latest recalls
Mar. 17, 2008.
Ottawa, Ontario ââ¬â Transport Canada has issued its latest recalls, which may affect some GM, Acura and Volvo vehicles.
2005-2006 Chevrolet Equinox
2006 Pontiac Torrent
2002-2007 Saturn Vue
Vehicles affected: 78,592
On certain vehicles, the Daytime Running Lamp (DRL) resistor may crack. If water and road salt enters the crack, it could corrode the resistor, which could result in a loss of DRL illumination. Dealers will replace the resistor until 7 years or 112,000 km from the date the vehicle was originally placed into service.
2004-2005 Acura TL
Vehicles affected: 10,090
On certain vehicles, if water enters the windshield wiper motor breather port designed to allow the motor to vent warm air during normal operation, it can result in corrosion inside the motor housing. This could cause the windshield wiper motor to become inoperative. Dealers will affect repairs.
2004-2008 Acura TL
Vehicles affected: 19,065
On certain vehicles, prolonged high under-hood temperatures may cause a power steering hose to deteriorate prematurely, causing it to crack and leak. Power steering fluid leakage onto a hot catalytic converter will generate smoke and could possibly lead to a fire. Dealers will replace the hose with an updated version.
1997-2003 Buick Regal GS
1997-2003 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP
Vehicles affected: 21,047
This action affects certain vehicles equipped with a 3.8-litre supercharged engine. While GM has not fully completed a technical analysis, it currently believes that certain underhood fires may be caused by drops of oil depositing on the exhaust manifold through hard braking. If the manifold is hot enough and the oil runs below the heat shield, it may ignite into a small flame and, in some instances, the fire may spread to the plastic spark plug wire channel. GM will send a preliminary letter to customers in mid-March advising them of the condition and what precautions could be taken. Owners will be instructed to contact their dealers for a repair as soon as a fix becomes available.
2007 Volvo C30, C70, S40, V50
Vehicles affected: 161
On certain vehicles, rubber seals inside the brake master cylinder assembly may suffer premature wear, causing internal fluid leakage. This could result in reduced braking performance that may gradually deteriorate over time, and eventually could cause a complete loss of brake function. Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the master cylinder and fluid reservoir.
