Who Wants Another "i Want To Boost Thread!"?

i was trying to spot the fram in the pic so i could rag on you about that again

also, to the OP... are you planning to track your car at all? most users on this forum aren't heavy track users, so you should get other opinions if heavy track use is one of your plans. the durability requirements of several hours on a circuit are MUCH higher than a 13s 1/4 mile run or top speed pull on the highway.....

I'll run out and try to do a quick measure I suppose.

EDIT> Crap, its 2.25, does that mean I'll need a new exhaust as well for a turbo setup??

MBRP now makes a 2.5 for Focus IIRC - NOS2GO4ME helped MBRP in its development ... also: I sent you a PM couple days ago.

Is it listed on there website??? They don't list a 2.5 for a 2000-2005 Focus Zx3.

Nope, no track time for me at all. I want a daily driver that will be more "fun" :)
My goals are fairly modest, I'm just looking for close to 200 whp.

Not sure ... Adam (NOS) would know better ... doesn't look like he's posted for a while, so in the meantime here's one of his threads about getting his 2.5 installed (Duratec) ...

Dont listen to naz.

A 200whp focus is fun to drive, and you will not regret it.

The problem with the stang is
A: 1.15/l and going up.
B: I live in Mississauga and work in Markham.

I commute with a couple other guys, but the gas bill (along with the 407 bill :@) is already getting crazy with the focus and I don't think I'd want to increase it that much more.
Also, having had a crapload of used cars, the Focus is my first factory ordered new car, and giving it up for a used Stang (as much as I love the Stang) isn't really sitting well with me.
For background info, the Focus is my 13th car, and I've already owned 2 stangs. :)
Never owned a turbo before though. ;)

You dont have too, but its a good idea to go with 94. My impreza can take 91, but only 94 goes in.

My focus was tuned on 91, but only gets 94.

Ok, thats the first I've heard for only 94.
I understand the reasoning (knock) but won't 91 do the job if tuned correctly for 91?
Is 94 a requirement to get close 200whp??

If this is a solid requirement, I might have to change my plan of attack (no way I'm locking myself into a sunoco only scenario).

The supercharger kits instructions that I've read only mention 91...superchargers won't get me to 200, but they will get me closer to it than I am right now.

see above post.

You can get it tuned on 91 and keep using 91, but I like the added safety of 94. B)

Ok cool, being its a daily driver, the last thing I would want is to get stuck in a "damn, near empty and no bloody sunoco's nearby" scenario.
That would suck.

i keep a small 2 gallon gas can filled up with 100 octane in my parking spot, just in case i have to drive 'extra' during the week. i dump the 100 into the tank and drive to any gas station and fill up with 2 gallon of 91

you could do the same with 94 or whatever the highest octane is readily available in your area

dude.. i don't doubt it is fun stuff. all i'm saying is for a "reliable fun daily driver" you can't beat a stock car. :)

i've lived with a swapped car (veedub), a stock car that is tracked (current sube), a MC (ex500), a stock car that lives 100% street (old integra) and by far the least maintenance/upkeep/driver awareness needed was the 100% stock street car

tttthaaaat's all i'm saying. i am not saying don't do it.. i'm just giving my perspective (which is obviously different from yours!!) :)

Its ok to disagree here naz, I started this thread to get all opinions, for and against.
I respect the point about reliability, and thats something I'm looking into also.
I'm a wrencher, but not having any experience with a turbo, I'll likely have it all professionally installed. However, that doesn't mean I won't be learning and/or working bugs out of the system once its in place.
One thing I'm trying to research is whether turbo is more "bug" prone than a supercharger. My initial investigation says if the turbo is properly installed, with good equipment, it should be relatively problem free. I'm continuing my investigation into to see if I can get some empirical data one way or the other.

Flo ur right u can tune for 91 Octane but for best results you would want 94 octane or 91 with octane booster also works as for reliablity small turbo proper tune +200 whp 10 psi or less is just as reliable as any supercharger kit.

Thanks for confirming.
If I end up shy of 200, thats gonna be fine with me.
I'm trying to get the right balance of performance/reliability so sacrificing 10hp or so won't bother me a whole lot.

Well, for best results, you should go with 110 oct. :P

he wants a daily driver, so tune it on 91, and run 94 whenever you can.

And octane booster doesnt do s*** my freind.

You'll have a hard time 'but dynoing' a 190WHP and a 200WHP car.

The only time I really notice the difference is when i change the boost setting on the fly....if I go from 10psi to 12 psi while rolling, then you will feel the extra boost, but if I start out at 12psi, it still feels like 10psi...if that makes any sense...

yea it adds like 0.01 octane or something stupid like that!! i looked into this in some detail a while back when i started to get deto on 91 octane

off the shelf octane booster is definitely not the way to go. mixing toluene does indeed get the octane up but it kills fuel lines, so that is not a viable option for a street car

another option i was considering before i found a pump with higher octane fuel is purchasing a 55 gallon drum of 100 octane

http://www.hiperfuels.com/catalog.aspx?Mer...n&DeptID=169320

i've seen it going for around $350 shipped, so around $6.36/gallon. this would let you run a more aggressive 93 octane tune, and mix the 100 octane 50/50 with readily available 91 octane you would get somewhere in the neighborhood of 96 so you could have your aggressive tune and a decent safety margin against deto
