Guys, is it safe to remove the heat shield from above and around the exhaust near the fuel tank? I've removed the piece in front of this one, as it was hanging loose, but this one I'm not sure about. ATM, it's sorta wrapped/bent around the exhaust box there to stop it dragging.

I took mine off last fall, nothing bad has happened yet..... just waiting for some warmer & hotter temps to see if I'm cooking any hoses or wires.

Tons of pple don't have the header shield and i ripped out pretty much all the stuff from under the car

Alright, thx guys. Seems I can remove it without worrying.

Anyone else removed theirs? BTW, it's a 2000 wagon...tho I don't think that makes any difference.

I lost something today on the 416... I was worried, so I turned around to see what it was... I found another piece of heat shield! :D

should be fine.. if you are really worried about it you can wrap the exhaust up to try to keep the heat down or replace the heat shield

IMHO, the only things that need a headshield are exhaust manifold, downpipe, turbo... the other stuff downstream is not *that* hot

Well, just cut it off. I notice there is only about 2 inches between that 'center box' and the fuel tank, so I hope you guys are right about the heat.

Naz, I saw that wrap....does it block heat almost totally? Though it might be easier for me to get a piece of thin aluminum plate from work and fashion a 'separator' within that 2 inch gap, then just screw it to the body. The heat 'shield' seemed to almost touch the fuel tank, so it wont take much to protect it I guess.

that wrap stuff from what i've heard works very well. you can actually touch a header (what it was used on while i was reading) for like 5 seconds before you have to take your finger off. not bad considering if you did it without it, you'd hear a frying bacon sound lol.
