Now Mazda5 (kia Rondo)

Compass - horribly bad reskin of the Caliber. Don't do it!

Patriot - also on the Avenger platform, but at least it looks like a Jeep!

LOL - I went to Jeep.ca and did a "comparison" of the Compass 4dr Sport FWD vs the Escape XLS FWD. They rate it (Compass) higher for HP but they neglect to report the 4-cyl HP figures right for the Escape!!!

Remote entry on the compass - nope. Traction control - nope. Lots of "nope" going on there vs. the Escape.

The Compass is a Caliber with Jeep badging. Stay away!

If I wanted an entry-level Jeep, I'd take the Patriot with Freedom-Drive II.

As a people hauler, it's pretty good. a little low on the power, when you wanna go racin', or need to accelerate rather quickly, but, a good reason to start moddin'. Be careful when you start on the options, it looks like it can get expensive. But, hey, it's based on the EuroFocus, so.............................. :)

Strictly a people hauler, replacing a Freestar, so I'm not going to do any racing with it. If I want to go racing, I'll go dust off the old 5.0. :D

If you can keep down on the options, they are not too bad, and the financing terms are pretty good right now.

Plus, it puts me in a C-Max, before they are sold here... C1 baby!

Oh, and NOS, the Compass/Patriot twins are based off of the Caliber chassis, not Avenger. The Journey is on the Avenger Chassis. ;) Either way, I won't own a Chrysler product. I'd rather the Kia...

Escape doesn't give the l/100km numbers I'm looking for, plus the Mazda5 drives like a Mazda3.

Mazda5 5AT (from Mazda.ca) - 9.9L/100KM city, 7.2L/100KM highway.

Ford Escape XLT FWD 2.3L (from Ford.ca) - 10.3L/100KM city, 7.7L/100KM highway.

Jeez... for a truck with truck clearance and mobility, plus standard traction control and roll stability control - I'd take the Escape!

If you want fuel economy, get back into a 2008 Focus - 8.5 city, 5.7L/100KM highway.

Sheesh, my 08 Limited is rated 12.5L/100KM city, but in reality it's pretty much 11L/100KM if you don't wail on it all the time. I'm getting in the habit of maximizing the time in each gear and it's paying off! Highway is rated @ 9.1L/100KM and that's pretty much bang-on with what I get.

Not going to argue, but we don't want an SUV, and we need seating for 6 at a minimum. No Escape for me.

Well..... My is around 15-18L/100 in the city

but highway @ 120kph is 11L/100 which is good in my eye for 6.1 litres

We're not quite the Brady bunch, yet... :D

Looking at the a GS in Copper Red Mica with the Sand cloth interior. Can't justify the price for a GT (sunroof, fogs, rocker moldings, spoiler, 17" rime, middle row cup holders and a few other things) for an extra $4000...

That's better than I was expecting for highway, Don. Not bad at all!

Now there's just the +10 cents/L surcharge that's killer :P

I went trail-riding/"bad roading" Saturday after maintenance, brought the G/F and Tanker - did about 300KMs on 25L of gas. That's 8.3L/100KMs... not sure how that's possible, but that's what I'm at! Using the instant fuel economy meter on bad roads where you can take it easy (and allow lockup in 3rd @ 55-60KM/H) and the truck's a champ. :D

***Please Note: Leaving dealer name out of this to protect the innocent, and it sounds like a one time screw up. Sounds like it...***

Ok, so its getting better... :P

I take my wife to the dealer today to check it out, sign the papers if she likes it. We go, she drives, she sits in all 3 rows, is liking it...

[RANT]
Go to the bargaining table to discuss final numbers, and they throw out the $1000 down payment! WTF?!?!!?!!? That hasn't been mentioned since the first conversation, when I said 'No F&*king Way!' I snapped on the poor guy (I'm usually very passive, my wife just kind of sat back and watched). I know it wasn't his fault, but I was basically fed a bunch of crap from his co-sales manager.

Then they can't find the one we want (Copper Red Mica with Auto & Air) and there is only 9 in Ontario... Oh boy... The only ones they can get are Piss Green (my name... their name is Golden Sand Metallic) or Maytag White (Crystal White Pearl). FARK!!!!!

So, now the offer is $4 less biweekly for a Copper Red 5-speed manual car (wife doesn't drive manual) or the white or green for $1 more a month...

I call up one of the competing Mazda dealers in Ottawa, and I'm told they have not one, but 2 on the lot in the colour combo we want with AC and Auto. WHAT?!?!?! I thought there was only 9 in Ontario, and now there are at least two in Ottawa?!?!?!?!?!? Needless to say, I have them seeing if they can work the numbers to the same as my original deal with the other dealer, and then they can have the sale... Yay for them, boo for the other guys...
[/RANT]

So, needless to say, we might be getting the Mazda5 we want, just not from the original dealer or not the exact same dollar figure. Hopefully close at least...

I actually was going to get a Rondo before I went for the Focus.
I had a 2004 Mazdaspeed Miata turbo and they refused to accept it as a trade in!!!
So after private selling it, I rethought things through and decided on a used Focus Wagon instead. The Rondo is a great car (I test drove one thoroughly) and IMHO the interior is nicer than the Mazda 5 and I prefer its looks. Funny how you encountered the same lack of interest on accepting a trade in.

^^It's funny that you mention that cause my local Ford dealer had no problem accepting my 2004 Mazda RX-8 GT as a trade on my 2008 Ford Escape. B)

Ok, so went to another dealer last night. We have some pull there (my wife works with a family member of the owner, two friends of ours just bought 5's from them), so I figured what the hell. *It's on the other end of town, so I didn't go there first.*

Walk in, they have the one I want. They have 4 (four) of the one I want. WTF? I thought there were none in the Copper Red with auto... The other dealer was trying to get me to take something off of their lot (piss green or white) that they ordered too much of.

Basically the deal went down like...
1) give me $1500 more for my van
2) include more accessories
3) make sure my wife and I are comfortable with the deal
4) treat my wife and I with respect, no bull$h1t

The sales manager and the owner actually took my van in for the appraisal, and the owner came out and personally thanked me for coming in. A little bit different service. :D

No hassles, everything smooth, and Ryan is now a happy camper.

I'll be picking up my Mazda5 on Monday or Tuesday (when I want). :banger: Pics to come.
