2010 Ford Fiesta Sedan breaks cover
nov. 18 2008
source: leftlanenews

Ford used the Guangzhou Auto Show in China today to unveil its 2010 Fiesta Sedan, which is essentially a production version of its Verve sedan concept shown last year. Expected to be offered in the United States and Canada, the Fiesta four-door will be manufactured in Thailand and Mexico for these markets. A separate production facility in Beijing will provide cars for the Chinese market.

In order to ramp up North American capacity, Ford will invest $3 billion in its Cuautitlan, Mexico facility, which will raise capacity to 500,000 units annually and create another 4,500 jobs.

Ford will market a hatchback version of the Fiesta alongside the sedan in the U.S. The Dearborn-based automaker originally planned to sell only the sedan version, but changed its mind in the face of rapid consumer shifts from trucks and SUVs to more economical vehicles.

Ford did not officially announce which hatchback the U.S. would see — the Fiesta is produced as both a three-door and five-door variants in other world markets — but a source at Ford’s Mexican plant indicated that both versions would be available in the U.S. At the very least, the U.S. will see the five-door version, as evidenced by the latest spy shots.

Its not too bad looking. Way too small for someone my size, but if the current model focus had looked something like that, I would have seriously considered one.

on another point ... if they're going to build these things in Mexico, where they also build Fusion etc ... does this mean the next Focus will be built in Wayne, MI? And if yes, how many versions can or will they build there?

again i have to say that FORD is way behind. This model should be out now. By 2010 this will be a very uninteresting and plain look. Ford is constantly behind.

The verve, fiesta, ka should be out NOW. There are cars coming out now that look as advanced and better than these 2010, 2011 ford models.

I think it looks fine but for a 2008 model not for 2010. trust me.
Be the change you want to see in this world.

The hatch version looks way sexier. In sedan form it looks like another Toyota Corrola clone.

Is it me, or why does the production version of these sexy concept cars always look like the wheel size drops by 5 inches. The Verve concept looked like it had huge wheels with tires the filled the wheel opening with a nice hunkered down stance. This version has puny wheels with big gaps to the fender and a lot of height above the rear wheel (alla Toyota Echo.)

Mindless drones don't want a taut ride or to pay for 18-20" treads. They want a cushy, plush, uninteresting ride and cheap 15-16" rubber. That's why I wasn't really surprised to hear that the 2010-2011 Euro Focus isn't high up on the list of cars to come to N.A. just yet - they've already converted us away from the original hotness and now they're afraid of alienating Mom and Pop 6-pack by bringing the new, edgier Focus back into the mix.

Sorry to the guys who have an 08 or 09, but when your Focus looks like an Escort that humped an Ion (angrily at that)... that's not a Euro Focus. That's a "WTF was I drinking Focus". With a donkey punch thrown in for good measure.

Truer words have never been spoken. Ford has definitely lost their way and I will not be buying one of these frankencars. Why can't they just f***ing bring the Fiesta to Canada as it IS in Europe: it is simply, cleanly styled and looks like a smaller version of the euro focus.

My Focus was written off a month ago, because some f***tard stopped on a yellow light at an red light camera'ed intersection. WORD: if your city gets red light cameras, FIGHT them to the bitter death. They increase the frequency of accidents, they cause more injuries, increase property loss and is a governmental invasion of your privacy.

So instead of getting a used Focus hatch again, I ended up getting the closest thing to the Euro Ford Focus ST, a Volvo S40 T5 awd.

Ford needs to ask itself, if this car was a Volvo, would it sell? What if it were a BMW, would it sell? If they can't see the answer to this, the whole company is doomed.

Here's some better fotos of the hatch verve/fiesta. I doubt that the north america will call it the fiesta, because a lot of 40 somethings (are they even in the verve target market, REALLY???) a reminded of the Colt-clone Fiesta from the 80s and 90s.

http://www.thetorquereport.com/2008/02/gen..._2009_ford.html

Looks a little better than the sedan, but the rear wheel wells have no definition, and the car looks like it has a fat collagen ass. Do the lights REALLY need to extend halfway down the hood? Could we make them half the size, and take the cost savings toward projector lamps? The interior looks like my cousins JVC mini system from the late 90s and has absolutely no design sense or concept of proportion or space.

Here's something else Ford NA could do:
http://jalopnik.com/380835/ford-fiesta-rs-...infully-evident

The thing I love about this car is the engine: 1.6L turbo turning 200hp. This car would easily get 35mpg or higher in the city, depending on where the turbo really kicks in (2500 or 3000 rpm): so drive it under 2500 rpm, you get the economy of a 1.6L engine.... drive it in a higher powerband and you can compete with cars that do 100km/h in the 6-7 range.

Also, is anyone with me on premium cars and sizing. I love my new volvo, but I find the S40 to handle too much like a "big car" (the C30 would have been perf if it had 5 doors). I have a feeling our generation, when we get a little wealthier, is going to demand higher quality small cars. Right now small car means econobox, not better power to weight ratio, nor better handling. I hope somebody at Ford is reading this.

I had a whole lot to say, but forget it Nathan. If you're resorting to the age-old slamming where I live and lightbulbs? Come on now, I expected more of you.

If you really think the "new" Focus is a smart evolution of the real deal, then good for you. Keep driving it.

The front end of the new Fiesta is sexy...rear end...looks like a friggen Ford Aspire (I think they must've found a surplus of aspire tailights in a back corner of a wharehouse...lol). The RS is pure SEX.

The newer Foci aren't doing too well around the Ottawa Valley, or at least they weren't until they started putting SVT Euro rims on the SES coupes (starting to see several of them on the roads now).

They seem to know what they are doing with: Fusion, Escape, Mustang, and that's about it. They have lost their way with small cars in NA, and as the others on her pointed out, Ford is now at least 2-years behind the 8 ball.

Update

Quote:Ford used the Guangzhou Auto Show in China earlier this month to unveil its 2010 Fiesta Sedan — essentially a production version of the Verve sedan concept — and now details have surfaced on the North American-spec car. Expected to be offered in the United States and Canada, the Fiesta four-door will be manufactured in Thailand and Mexico for these markets.

Motivation for the Fiesta will be supplied by a 1.6L, featuring variable valve timing. No output ratings have been released as of yet, but the Fiesta is expected to deliver peppy performance and fuel economy near the 40 mpg mark.

Ford’s SYNC system will be available on the Fiesta, as will 16 inch wheels, a remote entry system, three different cloth and leather upholstery choices and a four inch LCD display. Seven airbags and stability control will be standard.

Although the Fiesta will slot below the Focus, Ford will be positioning the Fiesta as a premium small car, which should help the Blue Oval turn a decent profit in the historically slim-margined small car segment.
