depends really...I've been thinking of selling my wrx and picking up a 335i lately, and it would totally be worth it for me as I woudl be saving close to 10k after taxes are paid and all that jazz.

I could take 5 days off work (paid) take a couple of days to shop for what I like then take the the last 3-4 days to make sure RIV has got all the info necessary to get the car into Canada.

It would be a different story if I was losing 5 days pay though.

Saving 10k on a new car is worth it IMO.

Nice choice! I love the '07+ 335i Coupe!

Any body know if BMW honors warranty on US cars imported to Canada?

Probably have to pay duty as well when importing since it's made overseas. :(

there are 2 or 3 VW R32 in Sask that I know of, I don't think it was that hard to get them across the boarder.

who would want an MkV R32 when the MkVI R20 is so much sweeter.

i started looking at importing a new TDI, but since its made in Germany i have to pay GST+PST and duties, which is 6.3%

In US the highline is 24K, and doesnt even come with leather seats. Only Canadian models get leather on TDI. Also you need a letter from VW Canada stating the car is ok for canada. That letter can cost from 50$ to 2000$. it all depends on what the company feels like. I know that letter is required for customs. Also you have to make sure Canada Warranty accepts US cars. I know some dealerships and companies denied US warranty. There is also the financing or leasing that you can not do if you get from US.

So i looked at all options and decided to pay the extra 5$ and have a Canadian car. It comes with 4 yr warranty and i don't have to do anything else. Just go there and sign papers. Ohh yeah the Golf TDI will not be in US until December as well.

Flo, i don;t think its that easy anymore. Lot of places are refusing to sell to canadians. Here is what a member from TDIclub said when he wanted to bring over a Jetta.
"Ok, well I figured I'd better update. I found this useful tool for determining tax/etc. and ruled out Michigan/Detroit (6% non-negotiable/non-refundable):

http://www.carburner.com/index.php?title=Main_Page (their server is horribly unreliable, up/down at random).

Anyhow, I narrowed down 6 viable dealerships, whipped up a quick want/need excel sheet, with dealer info, quoted prices, etc. And I came up just flat out dry.

Of the 6, 3 never returned my calls/voicemails/messages with their reception (2 calls placed to each). of the remaining three:

"Jeremy - Schmitt's Garage Inc." in Bowmanville, NY, gave me an initial price of $24,810 (MSRP on the dot), but when I told him I was from Ontario, he said "oh, well I'll have to give you another price", put me on hold, and came back with $27,000.00 ($2,190.00 over MSRP).

"Jason - Volkswagen of Orchard Park" in Orchard Park, NY simply stated that they were not allowed to sell to Canadians at all under their licensing agreement with VW. They came in at $25,890 (a cool $1,080 over MSRP), even had the exact car I asked for on the lot, but were quite clear that they would be punished by VW corporate for selling to me, unless I could license it in the US first (which I cannot).

" 'JD' - Vincent Volkswagon" in Rochester, NY took the cake though. After getting the basics out of the way, 'JD' learned that I was Canadian when trying to nail down the price (as he asked re: tax rate), briefly muttered something about not selling to Canadians, and actually hung up the phone on me! Now thats salesmanship!

For anyone interested in doing the same thing, hopefully this thread gives you some information to use. I'm reconsidering my choices, and likely picking up a 2010 TDI golf locally. This has served me as good reminder of how welcome Canadian consumers are at various US locations. Obvious VW dealerships are not one of 'em."

I like the new 2011 Golfs, I looked into pricing for one on the 3 dr, and the GTI, and I don't get the almost $9,000 mark upon them. I'm very disapointed that the 3 dr Golf dose not even offer diesel as an option. but I was surprised that they are bringing over the golf wagon finally.

but yeah on the US mention 90% of dealerships are forbidden from selling a new car to canadians, however used is another story, as dealers will bend over backwords to sell a used car to you.

Yeah have no idea why there is no 3dr TDi, weird!

As for used, if anyone is looking for a used US car let me know. I have access to auction prices and i can get you a lot of savings thru that!

makes sense that they don't have a 3dr version as TDI's would appeal to those looking for more practicality.
