Creating A Server
#1
I am looking into having my own ecomerce server.
I would buy my own machine and run the internet to it of course..
Whats the best OS, system components for a small business? nothing like a quad core monster.
Any other info as I am new at Website creating.

Why not just host with an online provider?

This way you can actually get your own domain name and not have to pay business class home internet or have to worry about your own server.

Places like GoDaddy can bundle pre-packaged apps to get you up and running within a day or two.

I'd look into managed hosting. Rent it monthly, rather than a big initial purchase, for something you might not want/use 6 months from now. Then you are not responsible for server maintenance, bandwidth, etc. Just buy your domain name, get your external IP from them, and let DNS do the rest.

Otherwise, you're looking at buying hardware (something with a raid array), ISP, static IP, domain names, DNS updates, etc...

I was just wondering because I have been paying for a domain and the other goodies at Siteground.com, and I looked at GoDaddy.com but that is over priced lol

Agreed x 100 ... I can recommend 10dollar.ca and hostpapa.ca ... puppet recommended them both to me and I think they're great - and I especially like that hostpapa's servers are all in Canada (Oakville to be more specific) - not to mention they are really inexpensive.

Sure I would rather be behind the lense than in front for Midget Porn.

hostpapa is a decent hosting provider too -- unlimited bandwidth, disk space, and only about $5/mo
