So we just got news that we're going to a 7 day workweek with mandatory OT for the remainder of the summer to cover for the usual poor leadership...

So that's now two summers I've given up to the company, and this year, as an added bonus I no longer get paid OT.

Sometimes I wish I could get paid as much as the idiots who ruin my life.

Holy.... no compensation for this mandatory OT at all? I'm not even sure that's legal. But I don't do employment standards act stuff myself, but I can get you a number if you PM me to ask about this.

Seriously dude, what kind of employment contract did you sign with these clowns and was it in blood?

Yeah, I'm going to get a lotto ticket at lunch... I signed a contract a loong time ago, so I can't recall the specifics, but I wouldn't mind having the number of someone to contact -- just in case.

I'm going to push for some time in lieu -- and maybe spend that time looking for another job.

I wish I did it to myself. There's really no benefit to me personally, and all this work is to cover for some really poor leadership up the project chain.

And go figure, it's the US that screwed this up. I can't say I've ever been on a 'good' project, but I find the US finds ways to really abuse the system.

Welcome to my world. I do a lot of site work, usually 6 to 8 projects that are anywhere from 3 to 7 weeks long. 7 days a week 12-13+ hours a day. Anywhere 70-100 hours a week. I'd gladly take your whole summer of work and not work my other outages.
Accept we don't get fawked on over time like you do (plus driving hours, milege, lieu).
But remember : "Gotta Pay to Play"

Its sad to say but IT workers do need a union or some rights to fight back, I find myself more often than not trying to explain how i'm not available this weekend because i'm out of town. An air card, laptop and cellphone are then provided with the expectation that i'll go to where I am vacationing and simply work there..... Love my job but sometimes its just bull#$#$.

unfortunately, us IT workers don't know enough about the labour laws to stand up for our own rights.

I'm not looking forward to working the next two months without a day off...

Electrical/Electronics Tech for Nuclear Services company......I have no life since I spend 4-5 months at site.

Any hour you work over 44 hours a week, you have to get time and half pay.. Otherwise it's illegal.

True if your pay is based on an hourly rate, but those of us that are a salary then your pay is based on an annual rate and expectation of how many actual hours worked is something that is established between employer and employee.

Kinda sucky deal. I'm on salary but my over time kicks in after 40 but we have people who's OT kicks in after 44. Saturdays are time and a half, Sundays are doubles.

DD1 is right, to be in a union kicks ass. Most unionized trades that I work side by side at site get double after 8 hours and doubles for their Saturdays & Sundays.
I think DD1 should buy us all chicken wings and beer next time lol

apparently, by law, and employee could terminate the overtime hours originally agreed upon with a 2 week written notice.

Not sure how that would do for job security -- hopefully I can get some time in lieu at the end of summer. Liked it better when I got paid for my overtime... seriously, if someone screws up a sizing and project plan, why should I reward them with free work?
