What's your objective ... if it's to improve your night time vision, neither of these is a good choice and would likely also be against the law.

If you've got 3000k fogs then I would suggest that 3000k headlights would not only match up the best, but because of the colour temperature would actually work the best as well.

why dont you go with 8000K, Ive talked to cops that I play baseball with and they say that is the legal limit as far as HIDs go and you still get a nice crisp white look with a hint of blue in it.

3000k is only can be used for fog light as legally.
and that is good when you are driving under rain, snow.

4500k is stock white(warm white) - good overall
5000k is white(cool white) - good overall

6000k is white with bit of blue or purple tint in it - bit dimmer than 4500k~5000k

8000k is blue blue, lot of honda guys are doing. it is good for highway driving.

12000k+, purple, pink, for show only.

but color is slightly differ by manufacture and type of ballast. 8000k suppose to be true blue but i've seen it close to 6500k.

when i was doing this hid installing thing to customers, 6000k was white/greenish but when one of ballast has been swapped with the one from different manufacture, color changed to 5000k.

Most of the exotics kicking around here seem to have 12,000k my neigbours aston has them. So i dont think there is any legal issues there. But i might end up just going with 8's.

I run 6k's and they appear white with a hint of blue .... I think I'd have been happier with 5k. Like everyone says, any higher will just reduce your light output.

Just buy a good set of bulbs. I run 80W Hella Yellow bulbs. I liked my HID's when I had them but now I don't. Looking at a car with improperly aimed illegal HID's drives me crazy. I know my current setup isn't legal either but meh, what can you do? I also have a set of Nokia yellow fogs as well.

But if you want HID's don't go higher than 8000K.

I have some 8K 35W.. I had 55W but they were too bright and pissing people off. I like them, practical with a bit of blue to make it look nice. Lights up the lines on the road real nice.
6K is more practical though.

I have 14K in SVT/Mach Hids
I wouldn't suggest them for a daily driver...

Go 5K or 6K for the best increase in night driving

I have 6000Ks. I'd go to either 4500 or 5000 next time. Definitely a bluish tint to it. Great visibility tho.
