1709 PNP Switch out of Range
#1
I had a check engine light come on a few weeks ago. Had it diagnosed by a mechanic there were 4 error codes, but three were related to a bad egr valve. The egr valve was replaced, the 1709 code still remained. The mechanic is going to do some research into the trouble code. Has anyone have the same error code? The car is still driveable but chugs or chokes a bit when the engine is warmed up. I did a search on the web i heard it could be an electrical problem with the coil pack, wiring or pcm?

I have a 2003 focus wagon se with about 145,000km.

I am going to try to drop the car off tomorrow, I'll mention it to the mechanic. I just don't understand why the switch would effect the car when it's driving?

Thanks.

it is possible that switch is sending wrong resistance or some sort and confuse pcm

That sounds right. The mechanic called me yesterday and told me it looks like a bad switch is the problem and he will order it from Ford on Monday.

To follow up:

I got my car back from the mechanics on Monday the CEL is clear now and the engine is running smoother. The problem was the speed sensor contacts were corroded and were cleaned up (giving the 1709 PNP error) and a bad dpfe sensor causing the choking but not giving an error code (I actually replaced this sensor last year with a dpfe sensor from Part Source I guess the quality is crap).

Thanks for the help!
