I had an Eclipse 5425. Great deck however 3 weeks after owning it, it just stopped accepting CD's. I brought it in for warranty work and my sales rep fired it back to eclipse...well a month has gone by and he hasn't heard from eclipse about the deck so he decided to be a nice guy and cut me a sweet deal on a trade in. He gave me the Kenwood Excelon series deck KDC-X789 for my old eclipse as a direct swap.

5v preouts too... bit of a drop from Eclipses 8v, but still nice.

Nah the 5425 only has a 5V preout. The 8V preout one is the 5445. The 5425 wasn't as stacked at this deck. The kenny has adjustable crossovers where the eclipse had an option to turn them on however they were locked in at 80hz.
The kenwood also has that organic colour display where the eclipse had this crappy 3 colour display but it wasn't organic.
Overall the kenwood X789 dominates the eclipse 5425.

IMHO, both those units look too busy.
I'll take the simplicity of any alpine over those two.

pioneer sucks... all flash no substance... alpines may be a bit pricey but ya get what you pay for

personally, i think that deck is ugly. also, only 3band EQ, no DTC, and 2.2 volt preouts. that equals N-O.

Meh, i'm happy with it. It wasn't exactly the best deck, but a good one imo at the time. Plus, unlike most Pioneer's it doesn't feel or look chinsey.
