Well, I thought I'd play around lastnight... made 2 ringtones, one, the opening theme from Hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy (a bit large tho).. and the 2nd being a navy whistle.
If you're phone supports mp3's and you have some free time to enter in the url in the phone browser, feel free to pick it up yourself.
that url is http://www.darkpuppet.com/ringtones/navywhistle.mp3
and I admit, this 'ringtone' is freakin' loud on my v551... be forewarned.

Navy, since they've been around longer... obvious if you click on the link to listen to it.

As a point of interest, the whistle is actually called a "Bosun's Pipe" or a "Bosun's Call", Bosun=Boatswain, basically a Navy grunt.
There are different calls, each "call" is has a different meaning.
The one you have chosen is "Pipe the Side" which is played when the Captain (or another high ranking officer) comes aboard.

that's good to know... I may have to check out the site and see if there's other 'calls' I should be making tones for.

that's all 220kb of it. Not as loud as the previous tone and quality may vary depending on how bling your phone is.

Bosun's whistle is very acceptable. My brother is a lieutenant-commander in the Canadian navy (stationed in San Diego for the next 4 years in a $3,300/month 4 bedroom 3 car garage) and had to learn all the calls when he was a Grunt. Now the Grunt's do the call whenever he is coming aboard. And up we go to the officer's mess for another cold Canadian beer!
Old enough to know me limit, yet young enough to exceed it.

Yar,
When we refered to a whistle that was the Parade GI's (Parade Gunnery Instructor'-Navy equivalent of an army Drill Sergeant) "parade whistle" which was a tubular whistle same as a London "Bobby" police whistle.
If I had ever called a Bosun's pipe a whistle I'd be told to: "drop and give me twenty" (push ups that is you dirty bastards).
Along the same lines if you ever called your pistol, rifle or whatever a "gun" instead of your "weapon" was there ever hell to pay!
