^^ Are you really being serious? You do understand that 720p is native on this projector?
I'm not even going to waste my time. It's a great projector, and even upsampled DVDs via 480p look terrific. We have it projecting to a 92" diagonal HDTV pull-down widescreen with a fiberglass backing that blocks 95% of all light from passing through it. Very handy, actually.

I hate widescreen tv's, seems like feed you need to re-adjust the ratios, etc. And it doesn't look right. We recently bought a 27" HDTV widescreen. Returned it because I couldn't stand changing ratios, that and it was sort of expensive for what you got.
I've seen a few projectors, I can't say I like them, we have lots here at work we use for presentations and such. Even at their max power with the windows open it is hard to see the screen 100%.
I'm not really helping you by this post, I myself gave up on finding a larger TV until I see a smashing good deal on something I can't resist.

that's not too bad a price, but at 40" in size, it's a tad small to warrant buying a DLP projector.
but on the 40" tv front, Sony's Qualia has come down to about $20,000... and it's THE PERFECT TV.
ok, all kidding aside, you could get this TV, or any other DLP at 40", or a 40" XBR from sony that has a 3 chip LCD for a couple hundred dollars more.. it may prove a better picture at that size... or get a plasma that you sell in a couple year's time to upgrade to a 1080p DLP tv.
At one point, you could buy a 40" tube TV, but as it stands 40" is the limbo between pimping hidef and budget tube...so I'm not particularily happy with ANY choices.

that's a better choice, but I'd save up a few pennies more and get the HL R5078W - 50", 1080p - and I've seen it as low as $2800... by next year, it'll be another couple hundred cheaper.
And it's the much better buy, it's the best resolution hidef should ever go, it's got the latest DLP technology, all you're going to want to buy in the future are spare bulbs.

How much hi-def is there these days, anyways?
And the receiver prices... holy crap. 800 bucks for a HDTV + PVR, 350-400 without, or rent it for 20-30/month, depending on the model.

The rental/ programming prices dont bother me much. because we're just a couple months away from employee plan pricing..
i think rental is 12.95 for a non pvr box...

I can get 99% of the channels for a whopping 6 bucks/mo. That doesn't bother me. The receiver prices scare the crap out of me, however. I refuse to pay that much a month, whether it's "warranted" or not.

is the Samsung a safe bet over the toshiba i picked earlier... I dont want to get much higher than $2000 though.
So if anyone can find me a canadian price on the Samsung HL-5064 Lower than 2189.00 it would be much appreciated.

I would personally pick the samsung over the toshiba, but really, they're both about the same technology wise in this case.
If you went a bit higher end, then Samsung all the way, and that biases me in this case to go with the samsung.

And here's the monkey wrench. Samsung, and Toshiba for that matter, have terrible repair records.
Your busy enough trying to keep the Focus from the repairman, why cheap out and do this with your tv?
I bought the top end (at the time) Sony 34" XBR and it is a great tv for 4 years old.
I think you can now get that set for close to $2k ( I ma gusseing) and you won't be disappointed.
Big does not mean better.
I am also in the hunt for a new tv too Steve, but it won't be a cheap one and it won't be Samsung.
Just my 2 cents from what I have learned. And if you want a deal or info, i have a friend at Trutone who gives me great deals. They all will if you pester them enough.

I'd much prefer to get a tv through a real hometheater/electronic store. but at the moment, the $$$ isnt there to warrant spending 4~5k on a tv.
I'd prefer to get it at best buy, because i've got a $500 Gift certificate there. so i'd like to put that against the tv.
the thing that confuses me with the samsungs, is they have different canadian and american model numbers. they both seem to be the same tv. but i cant find many reviews on the canadian model. R5064 vs american model R5067.
I'm gonna go into the store tonight, and test out a couple tv's and i'll probably make my decision early next week.

Almost all manufacturers do this. Even for things like appliances. You have to assume that it might be slightly different because of some government regulation, but the ratings and standing repair records for a US tv would be the same for the Can. tv.
You could always use the $500 for somehting else besides the headache of a, I won't use the word s***ty tv, because it's not that bad, tv that might not be exactly what you are looking for.
But maybe it's exactly what your looking for.
Another excuse to come on here and bitch about a product that doesn't live up to your expectations.
Hey, that's funny.
And I am kidding. Sorta. My point. Don't be cheap. And look into it alot further. $2k is $2k. Look at what it took you to earn it and the time you invested to get there and you'll see that it is a much more important decision than asking us dumb dumbs what our opinions are. :D

Dean. Ignore Nos for a minute. What's your suggestion for a tv in the $2000 range.
How about the 3-5000 range.
Just for interest sake.
