Not Happy With Dealership.

Ha,ha...oops! He's an apprentice, so when he's earned a few certificates he'll maybe move to an independant shop or open his own? I did actually take the wife's ZTW to CT 2 weeks ago to take a 3" nail out of a tire. They fixed it good and managed to put 51psi in it. The wife was wondering why the backend felt 'jumpy' driving home from CT :) Keep looking for a good mechanic and once you find him, keep going so he can learn your car the best. My 2cnts.

Sounds like a fair deal to me, Although I can comment on the a dealiership I can said without a doubt I trust one & yes it's a ford dealership. I've delt with 5 ford dealerships here in the GTA & only one went beyond the call of duty for me to make sure my car was fixed right without any problems. And they've delt with a lot of B/S from ford head office for me about my warentee issues & how another ford dealership riped me off when they sold me my current Focus without changing all the warentees over to my name. <_<

Anyways.............. good for you on bitching to them.

as for the Kia dude, I can say this even though our focus are crap to you or in your mind set. Atleast we, as focus owners can say our car maintains some value as they age, unlike all Korean built cars that tend to be worth next to nothing after 3 years of minimal use. :P

That Said; Hyundai is the only car company out of Korea to produce a car that can out do a focus se and it's a sports coupe called the tiburon made again by Hyundai NOT KIA. However, pitting the Tiburon against the SVT Focus one can say the SVT Focus stands to beat the crap out of the Tiburon hands down.

Focus SVT 170 hp @ 9,000 rpm
Tiburon 138 hp @ 6,000 rpm

But welcome none the less. :lol:
I was the only member on this board with a Yellow Focus Sedan, and a 2002+ Euro Facelift on a sedan.

...he should try to get a job at a dealer....I really encourage dealerships for their apprenticeship training. I took my apprenticeship through a ford dealer, and the course was excellent, I breezed through my mechanic exam, I was very well prepped with my training at centenial college in the ford asset program. They really do go through the proper way of doing things....I dont know what his canadian tire garage is like, it may have some good techs to learn from, but I have heard crazy stories from fellow mechanics that started out at canadian tire garages.

just a funny canadian tire storey for ya....about two days ago I had a customer come in with a windstar with a squeaking belt. So I talked to him, and he said canadian tire had just replaced it...he said it took over an hour to get the belt replaced...and at one point, he saw someone walking over with a 5 foot long bar to get the belt on???? I told him I dont know why they would need that...and at that point I realized they had actually bent the belt tensioner out of alignment by prying on it with the bar....well anyway, I put a new tensioner on for him, and I think he was suprised to see me install the belt with nothing more than my bare hands.

I just graduated from college as an auto servive tech and still looking for a jopb to continue as an apprentice but no calls yet :( I hang out at the local mechanic shop near me just up the street and watch him work have a chat etc.. i learned alot since i been outta school from him, great mechanic. How did u put it on with your bare hands, my mechanic always uses a special serpentine belt to, long bar almost looks like a big ratchet with different adapters for all make and models of cars. Works like a charm everytime. I used a prybar on our to put the belt on but nothing bent or anything, i know how to be gentle and it went on great, nothing bent or broke and she is nice and quite. Some mechanic's atre just plain bad. Like i have some tools but nothing special like that serpentine belt tool. KD wants like 100 bucks for the whole thing. Some canadian tires i know and thier good guys, some are horrible all depends on who u get. My dad does all our work+ me :D Our the local mechanic which is the one i am always hanging out there watching him and his son work, we have a good time there it's fun when everyone stops in and tell a few stoires, logts of laughs ;) No one complaint about his shop and never a come back. If you're going to compare the Tiburon to the Focus SVT at least do it with a Tiburon model that's in the same price range.

A little off topic but I thought it might be good to add that Hyundai owns Kia, and they both share platforms.. (Ie. the Hyundai Accent and Kia Rio are on the same platform)

Not sure if Kia uses the Tiburon platform for anything, but you cant really say that Kia is crap and Hyundai is good :P

started here at evans ford when I was 15 on a co-op in high school. I have been working here ever since, I got my mechanic licence when I was 20, and am 23 now.

I have the serpentine belt tool too....but doesnt work on this model of windstar...but bare hands work great in thins situation, it was something I picked up from fellow mechanics here, first you instal the belt on all the pulleys except the alternator, then you can pull up on the belt with one hand while using the other to slip it on to the alternator pulley. the problem with using the pry bar is its easy to chip the ford pulleys(since they are plastic) or bend then as in the case of canadian tire. but this does not work on focus', they dont leave that much room to try this, I usually just use the belt tool, or a wrench from under the vehicle after the ac compressor cover is removed.

I dont stick to one brand of tools, I decide on what I buy based on how well the tool works, and how well it was made, and the price. It would be nice to have all snap-on tools, but they are very expensive. I have spent probably around 6 to 8 thousand on tools so far. my air tools are the most important and most used tools, so they are all good brands like snap-on and mac...but even when you buy the best brands, they still wear out. my sockets and wrenches are mostly craftsman or mastercraft professional series.

Pretty sweet how u can slip the belt on with bare hands, never see it to often. Yah some ford pulleys are bakelight (cheap ass plastic :angry: ) We broke one day ona 3.8L shop engine it just fell apart, tool fell and broke it :blink: Damn big ass wrench :lol: Yah my mechanic and me also i use all mastercraft and craftsman but for the air tools and stuff it's all bluepoint and snap on, the best built air tools hands down. I use Craftsman sockets, power bar flex head ratchet, all mastercraft ratchets,sockets besides the craftsman ones, bought the big 171 piece set from crappy, they work pretty good. All mastercraft pliers except a few craftsman ones, got some mastercraft and gray wrenches, snap on speed handle etc.. Big vortex socket set from craftsman, really handy on struts and stuff ;) Craftsman screwdrivers i got all kinds of stuff i bought, as gifts, given to me by my dad. So you can say i am all craftsman and mastercraft so far. I want a snap on impact gun and air ratchet. My mech uses them, like i said thier the best b/c these things are damn tuff, never seen an air tool work this well in the hell they go through. Sounds like your quite a tool collection, What kinda big special tools do u have??? Also what tools for me, a guy starting out you think i should have?? What do u recommend i buy which i will need alot??

depends what area you are going into, I am a general mechanic, and I do some transmission stuff too.

specialized tools I have are coolant pressure tester, brake caliper tool(a must for ford mechanics on rear calipers on some ford vehicles like taurus/sable/continental), brake line flair tool, fuel filter fitting tool. torque wrenches are good...I only trust snap on for this, I have the 1/2 inch drive and trhe 3/4 in drive....and the list goes on, but as far as specialized tools, these are the most needed for me.

Yah my mechanic has 2 snap on torque wrenches 3/8 and 1/2 drive, total was like 800 bucks :blink: Freaking crazy. He said thier the best that's why they cost so much. the fuel filter fitting tool, used that before what a rig :lol:

Thanks for the advice also, much appreciated. Oh yah any companies i should stay away from and what tools i should stay away from, from the good companies like craftsman and s**t.

I had one of my front swaybar links go at about 60K, and now I've got a new clunking noise in the front@ 78K...I'm thinking that maybe it's either a tie rod end, or it's a ball joint...I can't be mad at the stock suspension bits wearing out...I drive the car a helluva lot on highway 60, 11, 401, 427, etc...all of which are rough as hell, and I drive on them slightly over the speed limit too...hehehe...

Bleeding Ford Blue again...
