if you want V, its 195/55 or 205/55 only, and the price goes up drastically.

I still haven't made my way into the dealer yet for the tires. There's also a couple of tire shops I want quotes from first. Gotta maximize the cash!

I just bought a set of Falken ZE512 for my Mystique - 215-45-17 for $127 each installed ... the same place has 195-60-15 for $85 ea installed.

I can get the kumho 712s for 140, installed and balanced.

I'm going down to see a set of Pirellis today as well.

i won't be using the dealer... sadly their price seems to creep up every time I call about a tire.

For those who want to know...

I ended up with a lightly-used set (1200kms) of Pirelli P6s. I almost didn't get them except for a glowing review from a RSX owner in the same shop at the same point in time who had just retired his set after two years of 3-season driving with them.

I also snagged a full set of 05/06 Focus 5-spoke 16" alloys with them.

Apparently the previous owner bought a new Focus hatch, drove it for a month, and then traded "up" to a set of 17" Motegis and unknown rubber, maybe Goodyear. The rims are pristine with one small scratch across one spoke on a rim. Nothing huge.

Total cost? $747.50 after taxes, free install.

So now the question beggars, "how soon do I transfer them to the S2 rims?"

Better yet, do I perform an act of sacrilege and not do it at all?

The P6's come standard on the STs. They're ok, not very grippy, especially in the rain. But ok.

The P6's are a fair weather tire only. Downright scary in the snow (Those pathetic skins have so little grip in the snow that if it wasn't for the TC I would have gone nowhere fast this winter <_< )

5 spokers, with a line dividing each spoke (lightly) lengthwise?

Daniel... we had an assload of rain here the day I got them. I remembered reading your post about winter performance, and I bent the car into a sharp lefthander purposely at 50 KM/H. I would never have attempted that stunt on the 14s, and the Firehawks understeer on that same maneuver.... it tracked like a champ without one bit of slip.

I have no intention of running them in the winter :) That's what the 14s and Integrities are for.

The Pirellis are also surprisingly quiet at highway speeds. We came back from one end of North Bay yesterday afternoon at 120+ at times, and they're like half the road noise of the Firehawks.

I might not be AutoX'in, but so far I'm impressed.

Yeah, I got the SES rims then. They're in decent shape. They're actually starting to grow on me, now that I put on the proper lugs.

I'll give it till after we're done our two runs down south/east at the end of May to figure if I'm transferring the tires to the S2 rims or not.

if your transfering your tires from one set of wheels to another, you have to get them mounted and balanced as well as new valve stems. probably cost 60 bucks or so.

Just to add another opinion in the great tire debate. I just put some Federal Formoza FD1's on my Focus. They were way too good of a deal to pass up.

205/50R16's - all four - $480 (mount, balance, tire tax, gst) from Kal Tire.

So far they've performed great.

Yes. But at that price, I can afford to buy steel wheels and dedicated winter rubber that'll be better than any all season I can buy.

Just ordered 4x 205/50/16 and 4x 225/50/16(for my bimmer) BFG g-f sport from tirerack for a total of $700US shipped. Workout to be ~~$105cdn each.
2000 ZX3: KW coil-over/IceMan/FC UPD/Megaflow cat-back /energy bushing all over/Ported TB/home make ground wires

260000km and counting.....
