Shopping For Tires.. P205/45r17
#1
I'm in need of new tires - my Yoko's have 47,000 on them and are down to the wear bars.

As I was getting a bit of rub with my Progress springs drop on the rims that Ford gave me (with what I believe to be a bad offset for a Focus), I want to drop down to a 205/45R17.

I am looking at the Falken Ziex ZE-512 or the Toyo Proxes 4.
The best price I've come across locally (inc mounting & balancing and inc. taxes) is $759 for the 512's and $874 for the Proxes.

1010tires.com has an awesome free shipping deal right now (and no PST if you're out of province!), but balancing and mounting is obviously extra once the tires arrive, so the $733.64 to my door for the Falkens works out to about the same. But the Proxes work out to $802.12 - which might be worth taking advantage of.

Does anyone know of anywhere in the GTA that can likely beat either of these prices??
And which should I go for.. is it worth spending the extra on the Toyos?

'00 ZX3, WW 'W-Typ' kit & 3-pc Wing, 17" CSA Ultra 5-spoke rims, Progress Springs, SPAX shocks & struts, MAC Intake.

I can get Khumos in that size for a little over $100 each. Call Bruce at ERP at 519-650-1455. Tell him Shawn sent you. He will give you an awesome price

if your rubbing with 215/45/17's try changing to 215/40's instead of 205/45

It'll give you a little more clearance

.. But a harsher ride, no?

Btw, I was shopping around for prices and came across a Wanli dealer -- Extreme Wheel & Tire in Richmond Hill (905) 770-2302. They're dirt cheap, and apparently a good tire similar or better to Yokohamas. Don't make a 205/45R17 though..

I sent Rubberman a PM.. haven't heard back yet..

Strangely enough, I got a puncture today so decided to get whatever I could get in stock nearest where I work. I ended up getting some more 215/45R17's .. this time Nankang N-1's @ $102 a piece, installed. Similar to the Wanli's, they have an aggressive tread, reviews say they are good in the wet and they perform quite well for the price - similar to tires costing much more. The shoulder is also more gentle a slope than the Yokos so rubbing shouldn't be so bad. Seriously, at that price it's worth experimenting with. Too bad they didn't have the NS-2 which comes in 205/45R17 size, but oh well..

Call rubberman. He doesn't hang here much.
