News reports are saying XM/Sirius is 1 Billion in debt and seeking bankrupcy protection. New car sales slumping has reduced new customers and old customers are flocking away as Sat. radio is only an extra cost.
http://finance.yahoo.com/news/EchoStar-ama...b-14259026.html
Stocks were at 11 cents today.
I wouldn't be renewing my contrct for their services for an entire year. Go monthly or even qurterly so you don't get burned if they do go under.
TEAM PITA Don't settle for a wannabe, only accept the real deal.
One day I will rule the world. For now, I have to settle for this place.

Agreed in terms of paying up front for a long-term deal ... but reading the underlying articles it appears this is more about Ergen gaining control of the assets without having to buy out the current shareholders - - as opposed to the service itself actually ceasing to exist.
Either way no doubt there's a big shakeup coming in sat radio.

I always thought this satellite radio should have been a pay as you go deal.
I wonder if Stern is wondering what he's gonna do with all that extra time he's gonna have.

well.. if you had gotten in on the Vonage lifetime subscription deal when they first came out, you would be dancing in the halls.

True enough and the idea seemed sound at the time :(
Just hate the thought of losing the $600 I ponied up (minus the months of service since I signed up, a grand total of five months so far  )

Stern was never the same after marriage. Sirius bet big on him and lost. Thank you AM/FM for free.

Hey if I at least get my $ worth before they shut it down I'll be happy (at the current pricing in Canada, I think my break even point is another 2.5 years away)

Thank God!
I would never ever go back to listening to AM/FM.
Ninety percent of the time, every pre-set on my AM/FM dial on my drive to and from work would be playing a commercial. You'd think the jingle to "Sleep Country Canada" would have won an a Grammy, just for the amount of air-play alone.

even under bankruptcy, they likely wouldn't cease operations... this hasn't fully played out yet.
