Just checked Saskatchewan Kijiji for under $700 and found nothing even remotely worthwhile. I was prepared to drive it down to Ontario at no cost (I pay for the gas, meals and hotel) as this provides an old guy something to do, and a relatively cheap vacation to visit a son and others in the Toronto area. Plus, I can pick up a rare (or at least scarce) model and drive home, saving me the cost of air fare.
So the offer stands. If you should happen to find something in Saskatchewan that you want, then there is always a friend (retired) that can bring the car down at little to no cost.
Another site you might want to check is our SGI salvage yard [http://www.sgi.sk.ca/salvage_bid/index.html], click on "Items on Bid", then "Search" button, Filter by Inspection Types, choose "Requires Mechanical Inspection", find models you are interested in, read the description in "View Estimate" as well as look at photos and make your bid.
A very good example is a 2006 Taurus with 165190 km (
http://www.sgi.sk.ca/lcgi/salvage_bid_si...=Saskatoon) at $700 this week (and likely less next week if it doesn't sell.) A temporary permit is under $50 and provided the weather is good, has a long enough duration to deliver it to Ontario. At your end, you would need to repair the door, have it inspected and then you would have a relatively good, low mileage, rust-free vehicle. The only caveat is time. Weather could slow me down.
As an aside, the SVT-WGN running gear came from an SGI write-off; same yard and at a very reasonable price. My other vehicle is a Taurus and I keep it on the road by cannibalizing parts off another write-off.
