Wayne, Michigan – The Ford Motor Company has announced that it will increase North American production of the Ford Focus by nearly 30 per cent in 2008 to keep pace with strong demand for the redesigned model. The company said the Focus has been a hot seller since it began rolling off the line at Ford’s Wayne Stamping and Assembly Plant in Michigan in late 2007.

Ford sold 49,070 Focus vehicles in the first three months of 2008, an increase of 23 per cent from the same period in 2007. The Focus now claims 7.6 per cent of the U.S. small car market, up 1.2 percentage points from a year ago.

Production will increase to 245,000 vehicles in 2008, up from 191,000 in 2007. The plant’s 2,800 employees will work some overtime and Saturday shifts for the rest of the year to meet demand.

The 2008 Focus launched in October 2007, featuring available SYNC hands-free in-car communication and entertainment technology. Vehicles equipped with SYNC account for 40 per cent of sales.
