Replace the belt and tensioner on or cars. I think that might be the reason my car whines and flickers when I use my accesories.
I'm thinking that id the alternator was pooched, it would have gone by now. It's been 4 months since the whining started.
Any ideas fellas?

I dont know how comfortable you are under the hood...and dont take offence to this....You asked what burned fuses look like...not a good sign :P
Its not hard, when I installed my pulley it took me about 45 minutes to do, that was with a new belt to.

I think If I goto a meet I am going to burn several copys of my online ford service manual... for every ford 02-03 (most of us) and sell em for a quarter to recoup my CD costs....
I could List my mods.. my times and even my future mods here.. but there the same as yours.. with a little less conversation and a lot more action!

Shouldn't be hard to do, so long as you make sure the cams are aligned properly or you're going to have some bent valves. I learned this the hard way when I bent valves on my escort many years ago.
Should be able to just put a breaker on the tensioner to release the tension, and just slip the belt off.

Um, I think he was talking about serpentine belt, not timing belt...
Shouldn't take too long. Just have to get the car in the air, remove the shroud on the bottom, unbolt the idler, pull old belt, insert new belt, then bolt up idler.
Right Flo?

Matt and I are going to do a little "tune up Anthonies ride" day in a few weeks.
We're going to tackle the following:
Fuel filter
Tranny Fluid
Plugs
Alternator.
I'm planning on doing how-to's and a write up for each.

I'm curious, do the stock Ford plugs even need anything done to them? I thought they came pre-gapped so that they were simply pull old plugs and put in new plugs?
Hell, I thought that plugs and wires was about the only part of a "tune up" that I could actually do myself because of that :(

Nef, I'm sure they come pre-gapped, but I always check anyways. The gap tool is really cheap, doesnt cost much at all and you can pick them up pretty much anywher, and its very easy to use.

Gap tools themselves, seeing as I've never used one, do you change the gap by putting the little tool in the plug and .. uh .. what then ? I know that's how you check the gap.. but if you need a bigger gap, or smaller.. How do you get it?
Bend it..? Squish it?

I use needle nose pliers and carefully adjust with those. Check with the tool and adjust agin if required.

I dont think your whine would be the pully.
But you never know till you get it off and have a look at the bearing.
But just as a point of ref. Dont by the new good year Gator back belt... it whines to. <_<
Its just cause of the design
