Outfitting With Led's - Focus man. Focus. - 01-31-2006
Ok, I am thinking about getting LED bulbs for the interior and exterior. I have read the pervious thread about the Map and Dome lights. So I have some info on what I will need regarding those.
Dome light being p/n: 17314 (Wagner p/n) or a Festoon 3910
Map lights: BP3886LL (Wagner p/n) or in the thread a BA9
If anyone has further info any input is welcome.
Now on to the exterior. I am aware that I should use white or clear lens bulbs in locations with coloured lenses. I know that the required bulbs are as follows:
Front turn signals: 3157
Front sidemarker lamps: 194
Rear stop/turn signal: 3157
Reverse/back-up: 921
Now this is where I need your input. Who has LED's in their car? If so what should I look out for and what are the advantages? Pro's and Con's. Any info or input is greatly appreciated.
Photos would be nice but I know that lights are hard to see in photos. Now its your turn guys. what do you have for me?

make sure you pick up some resistors if you don't want the hyper flashing. You can buy electronic flashers at crappy tire but I am not sure they'll work in our car. I need to do something for my led turns I might just end up slaping resistors on them

What happens? Do they just flash to fast? I would have thought that they would have worked the same way as normal bulbs. I can switch to a HD flasher, no problem. Transport trucks use LED's and they don't have any special wiring. I worked for a HD truck parts company for 2 years and thuy use a normal 2 pin flasher just like cars. Only more robust to handle up to 20 circuts.

you need and electronic one not a mechanical one. The problem is that LEDs draw far less current than ordinary bulbs. The car senses that and treats it as a burnt out bulb and lets you know this with a rapid flash. The resistor adds more load fooling the car into thinking that all is normal.

Because there is not much resistance on the LED the car thinks the light is burnt out and it flashes fast. So you need resistors to draw the same amount of wattage as regular bulbs. This will eliminate the fast flashing.

i have leds in my interior lights and they are much brighter than colored bulbs and you nvr have to worry about fading or the paint cracking off them

I've got a LED domelight... and it's actually dimmer than the stock festoon bulb. It's nice and easy on the eyes at night.
I've also got 9 super-bright red LEDs in the trunk which actually look neat.
I can't say I've tried the turn signal replacements yet, but it sounds interesting.

I have front turn signal and rear brake/signal with led... you need to get resister for sure!!! I bought some resister for led turn signal, they hv to hook up in parallel and they work great!! I still have two brand new and two used resister for sell, pm me if you interested. I don't recommad changing the rear unless you can find very bright one, but I am sure is hard to find since not a lot of 3157led out there. For my front I got MS design replica grill so there is no turn signal lense, so i just hook up two amber led behind it and they are bright.

Autolumination.com has some pretty sweet multi-directional 3157 tail-light replacements, designed to make the most of a reflector-laden environment. At least, that's the way they seem. When I start the LED track lighting conversion project at home in the spring, I'll bring a set over as well to see how they do.
