Well I want to degrease the engine in the focus. I did it to the transam and it came out nicely so I was thinking of nailing the focus however I am not sure what to cover up.

In the transam we covered the Throttle Body, Battery, Alt and Distibutor. What all do I need to cover in the focus?

When we used to do it at work, I never covered up anything except aftermarket stereo cable, inline fuseholder.. or and exposed airfilter/cai

you might wanna cover the plugs...some might say so!!! apparently you get water and seeds in there!!?!?

thats about it...The spi is the same s**t....diesels are different and caution should be taken to not fuk them up...

The main thing is, dont sit there and hammer water on one area and makes sure you dry it after so water isnt sitting there....other than that you'll be fine to clean it.. ideally if you have an air compressor...blow all the water out after and i gaurantee you'll have no issues

I always used a tooth brush and simple green takes a while but man does it ever come out clean.

De Greasing The Engine - LOFOCI WAGON - 08-26-2005

I warm the engine just a bit to losen up any oils? I cover up the filter and spray the engine down a little with water but don't use high presure. I then coat everything with Simple Green let it soak a bit and spray everything again with water to rinse at a regular garden hose pressure! :D

Simple Green is the s**t for cleaning Engines... I think I'll do mine this weekend.. it's been a while

Lightly pressure wash it
Dry
Coat in simple green
let stand for 5 mins
get in there with a toothbrush or something similar to get the heavy stuff out
use brush to loosen up the rest
lightly pressure wash the simple green off
Marvel at the beauty that is your engine bay

hehe, here is how i do it
1- drive up to a coin wash slowly and making sure engine should stay cool
2- let the engine cool down a bit, it should be still warm enough so the oil could loosen up
3- cover nothing :)
4- spray tractor engine cleaner, white can from crappy tire, on the whole engine, cover as much possible, usually i would empty one can per wash, the can cost 4 something
5- let it sit for abut 5 min
6- start the car and then
7- start the pressure washer and wash the engine bay while the car is ON.

once you have cleaned the whole car just drive off. just make sure you drive for about 30 min. this way you are maing sure there will be no water left, engine bay will be so hot that all the excess water will evaporate.

I have been doing this for a very long time and i never had any problems.

I guess i'm just a bit lazzy to use the toothbrush.

I do this once a year. and i think it does a good job.

Well for my mom's 2001 sunfire GT , I just went to the car wash and opened the hood, and pressure washed the whole thing. worked fine for me. i've been doing that for the past, oooo 3 years, i've never had a problem and it seems to clean fine.

De Greasing The Engine - ThraxXx - 08-30-2005

ok thanks for the advice. I will give that a try. BTW Tri_kento, I love your avatar...that is freakin hilarious.

De Greasing The Engine - Drivesthebeast - 08-31-2005

Well, I've sometimes cleaned my engine bay by hand, but other times I've gone to the carwash to do this, but I only put it on "Pre-soak" which is concentrated soap, and then use the spot free rinse which is also low pressure, and that ended up doing a really good job overall...after a nice drive on the highway for about 20Kms, the engine bay was nice and dry and clean....then I went and detailed a few things with spray to make them nice and black and shiney...
