Can somebody explain global spark to me and what is the best setting? Also would I have to add fuel at wide open throttle ?

Spark adjustment across entire rpm band as opposed to changing within a range. You want spark advance higher in higher rpm for more power typically with a high revving motor. The spark advance on my sedan ramps up like crazy towards top end

So if I set it at +2 it will be at +2 all the way across?

RE: global spark - GFXjamie - 05-04-2013

Correct. As for air to fuel, you really need a wideband to do anything.. Even with spark to adjust you should be on a dyno to make sure you aren't lossing power but improving it and where.

The first time I dyno'd I adjusted between runs when I was N/A and I ended up gaining about 5whp from spark and fuel adjustments on the x2

To get the most out of advancing the spark you want to increase the octane rating of your fuel - newer cars will advance the timing when it senses higher octane fuel, and similarly, older cars will reduce timing when it senses knocking.

So im using 91 in my 03 should I raise it or lower it?

Well generally speaking the higher the octane number the more timing advance you can safely do ... your specific situation is harder to assess - depends on how much timing advance your tune starts with.

Ok cool. Thanks for the info.

RE: global spark - hardk0re - 05-05-2013

more timing = more power
but more timing also can = detonation=destroyed engine.

I wouldn't adjust that unless you've got someone to validate your not detonating. I know the ZETEC knock sensor sucks so you can't really go by that.

RE: global spark - adamzx5 - 05-05-2013

Yea once I get the wideband in I will play with it some more. Where is a good place to put it on the fswerks race header?

RE: global spark - adamzx5 - 05-05-2013

I leaned it out a bit and added spark nothing to major. But its pulls like a new car all over the rpm range. From about 1500-7000 it pulls alot harder, I raised the idle and its manners around town are much better. I just can't wait to get it on a dyno to really get it tuned.

RE: global spark - Scorcher000 - 05-06-2013

So do you have a racer package from SCT or some other tuning software?

Just curious...

RE: global spark - adamzx5 - 05-06-2013

No just using my x3. I have been thinking out getting the pro racer package though.

If you want to give me a call or call me I will show you a few things that will tell you if your engine wants more timing or doesnt want more timing , you have the xcal
I can take over your laptop hooked to the car and show you things like I was sitting in the car with you
