Removing Exhaust Heat Shields
#1
The points where they bolt down have rotted away, so the heat shield is dangling and pissing me off. Can I remove it completely with no ill effects, or should I replace it to keep things "proper"?

I'm sure I can mcguyver it back on, but I have no confidence in how long it will hold.

I yanked mine off about two weeks ago... Hacked it off with side cutters. No ill effects, yet.

I'll replace it in the summer, maybe...

I think mine is bitching as well... picked up a nasty tinny vibration between 3-5000 RPMs.

I'd keep the ones by the gas tank and the one right off the manifold because the could cause you prolems if they're not there in the future.....long trips with prolonged heat near plastic and rubber, but that is me

the cat cover cost about 75$, its not really hard to replace, but you must cut one side of it off before you install it or remove the EGR tube before instalation. I just cut off bit of it. Must easier :D

So? How is it now? Blow up yet?

I tried removing the bloody thing -- it's impossible without:
A) dropping the exhaust
or
B) side cutters.

I didnt really want to destroy it in case I change my mind... but f*** it, i've had enough. I'll be snippering the POS tomorrow.
