You don't need to take the glass out.
I did mine awhile ago, so I don't remember the exact number, but I'm pretty sure that theres 4 clips that keep the front of the mirror cap on.
Best bet is to find a super skinny flashlight (I used a mini led light). Point the mirror all the way up, then find the bottom clips. Find a super long skinny flat screwdriver, and pop the bottom two clips out. Then point the mirror down, then pop the two top clips out.
Voila, the mirror cap pops off.
