Is it weird, that's what drove Ford into the same non sense with the 'Explorer recall' when the tires were exploding. BS, I agree.

IMO the best thing a manufacturer can do is "get in front of it" as we say in the business; ie: accept responsibility and make all the right "apologies" and put replacement plans in place before the public begins demanding it.
BTW - I was on the Ford of Canada communications team that was responsible for the company's response to the Firestone tire recall.
