I'm not in the market for that kind of vehicle but it should do well, it would be nice to see it in a hybrid or diesel. I may be in the market in that case.
I don't know where the "truck like duarbility" issue fits in? Everyone of us here should has no reason not to expect to get at least 10-15 years out of a lowly Focus, hell I'm half way there and already and like many others here have examples of cars built in the early 90's lasting that long for many hundreds of thousands of kilometres and in Southern Ontario that is quite a feat.
Cars in general, even Fords, are SO much better than they were. There is no doubt in my mind that either of the cars in my drive will be around when my now 5 year old starts driving.
Besides most people sell or trade long before "durability" becomes an issue and thus becomes someone elses problem.
Then there is the whole landing on your roof business and advanced stage coach technology like having leaf springs for a rear suspension you get with a truck.
