I worked for a HD truck parts company for 2 years and thuy use a normal 2 pin flasher just like cars. Only more robust to handle up to 20 circuts.

you need and electronic one not a mechanical one. The problem is that LEDs draw far less current than ordinary bulbs. The car senses that and treats it as a burnt out bulb and lets you know this with a rapid flash. The resistor adds more load fooling the car into thinking that all is normal.
