Oil Filter
#1
I went and bought a K&N Oil Filter for my next oil change. I looked at it before puttimg it on,and noticed it looked larger than the one I have on the car now. I checked the product code on K&N's website, and it seems that the oil filter I have fits the SPI. My question is, will it fit on the Zetec?

According to the site SPI and Zetec have the same filter.

sometimes the filter is a bit longer then stock, that shouldnt be a problem as long as the tread size is the same.

My question is, how much did you pay $$$ for the K&N oil filter veruses a standard Ford brand filter?

I'm trying it for the first time, also using amsoil 5w20.
Paid $17.00 for the filter. I abuse my Focus daily, so when I can, I give it a better quality of "life"

I checked the K&N site. According to it, the 2009 is for the SPI, the Zetec is right filter is the 1012. I've called the dealer wher I bought the filter, and he is ordering the 1012 for me. I'm going to assume that the 2009 will work too, because I do believe that your ZX3 is running

just an FYI, there was a guy at another ford site and he did an extensive testing on the oil filters and his conclusion was that most of them are just names are different, but the actual filter is the same. I'll try to find the site for ya. I usally buy my filters right from the dealer and cost me less then 8$.

EDIT*

my bad it was actualy Mopar guy that did the test, but here are his results.

Partsource. The K&N filter is really only a good idea if your using full synth oil. Other wise its kind of a waste.

Update on the Oil Filter. K&N oil filter, 1012 is not available thru NAPA. The 9002 will fit on the Zetec though.
Perhaps Partsource carries the 1012?

I don't know either, but, as I said, according to K&N, there are two different filters. Next time, I'll pick up the 9002. I traded in at the NAPA in Bowmanville for two of the NAPA Gold.
