Front Bumper Change Plus Drop.
#1
Okay, I like to plan things before I do it, just to ensure that everything will be okay.
I've got a 2002 Zx5 Focus.
I want to do something nice with it, but I do not want a full bodykit, cuz I don't like the looks of it on a Zx5.
So I'm thinking about a front bumper, this one, in fact.

I think it's the 98 RS edition, if I'm not mistaken.
I'd get an adapted copy of it for the north american models, and that would look like this.

And of course I'd get a nice drop, thinking about 1,5 or 2 inches.
So I've got two questions here, if some of you knows the answers :
1- What set of foglights would fit this kit.
2- Is a 2 inch drop too much for that considering roads looks like f***ing world war 3 just ended here and that speedbumps are everywhere ?
I think it would be okay, since the bumper ain't too low, but since its a bit different from the 98 RS one (it gets a little lower), would it still be okay ?

Onderground Design.

And where should I search for foglights ? Looks like SVT fogs, but not quite certain 'bout it..

have you checked with ZX3tuning.com, Mitch might be able to get you the entire bumper with turn signal, fog lights, and mesh. you could get the RS bumper that you want.

I can't help answer your questions, but I will say that I love that bumper and that the first pic is one of my all time favorites.

its called a Collection Edition, and go with the 2002+ version, there is less cutting of the rebar required, as well, you dont have to spend extra on the corner lamps.

The foglights themselves come WITH the bumper if you order it as a kit. At least it does when you order it from http://www.european-parts.net

The price for it there is $601 cdn (if you are a member/have bought from them before). It includes the foglights, the grille inserts for the lower portion, etc. Only thing you need to buy seperately are the turn indicators/parking lights. I was thinking about getting the 98 RS edition bumper kit myself, but I am getting a replacement NA one and having my lower 98 RS grille grafted into it permanently.

Nice choice, and I agree with you that the only body kits that look good and understated are the E-spec kits from Ford, or the Wings West W-Type like Dark Puppets...

Best of luck to ya, and let us know when you get it all done...

LOL you guys missed the part where it says " made for american Focus " there, so it's made larger for our bumpers, and all that.

I would e-mail or call the company to ask about the fogs, see if they are included with the sale of the bumper itself, on top of that I recall reading a few copmalints about those fogs being easliy broken from typical driving ( ie. getting hit by small stones, etc.... ) But I'm sure you could get replacements so long as you have the size ( ie. 3" round ) to get a replacement at a parts store.

Personally I agree with Paulo on the collection edition bumper it looks nice and is the same and from europe, but the down side to it is the fact any 1998 ~ 2001 European Bumper you order will require you cutting the rebar to fit the side lights of the RS bumper in order to not only fit it, but to move your side marker lights to the larger ones one that bumper, that is again only on European bumpers, made for European Focus with their smaller crash bars.
I was the only member on this board with a Yellow Focus Sedan, and a 2002+ Euro Facelift on a sedan.

So I'd be better with the collection edition since the side markers are already in place and there is less fitting to do with it I guess. Looks quite the same, Frost's right, but theres a little band under it that's making it a little lower and different looking. It looks nice tho.

And I'm not quite certain about the RS side marker location, is it still legal for daily driving as they are in the front of the car ?

Anyonre saw that collection edition bumper cheaper than 585$ Can. somewhere ?

i drove an integra that had about a soda can height of clearance, not an insane drop or anything.. but enough that there were some driveways and streets were i would just scrape no matter what angle i tried or how slow i was going, even with the OE front lip taken off. i almost cracked the oil pan twice over bumps but i was lucky and the crossmember took the hit

i suppose how low is too low depends on how much tolerance/money you have for scrapes, what the approach and departure angles are like for the driveways/parking lots that you use.. etc for me.. the integra was a beater and as long as the oil pan stayed intact and the bumper didn't come off.. i was good to go.. but it would have sucked if it was a front end i put a couple of grand into to make pretty..

The RS collection bumper in the 02+ version last i checked cost more than the 98-01, not much about $40-50cnd but it did cost more.

the amount of cutting has nothing to do with the year of euro bumper but the year of focus you have. i have had numerous euro bumpers on my car(`00); 98-01 standard, 98-01 ghia, test fit a collection, and now the 02+/ST170... ALL of which required some trimming to the front rebar on my car, the 02+ requiring the most of all!

the US spec version of it is actually made out of a grafted SVT bumper i believe and not cutting the rebar is required

ordering small things from european-parts seems to be one of the cheaper options but the larger items usually end up costing a lot more than you think once they get here. and i think Indy just wraps his bumpers for shipping rather than boxing them for international freight....

to answer your questions...

iirc, the us spec version of the collection bumper you want works with the SVT fog lights quiet well. a small amount of trimming may be required but i'm pretty sure they are a very close fit.
a 2" drop should be fine with that bumper, the bumper is not that low. i have about 3" of front clearence on my car and the big speed bumps around here are not too bad if you take them sideways like previously mentioned. potholes should not be an issue inless you could actually fall into them... ;)
